Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled MnO2 by which an improvement of the performance of a cell using a nonaqueous electrolyte can be expected when used as a positive pole active material for the cell by irradiating MnO2 with microwaves to remove water without dislocating the crystal structure.
CONSTITUTION: γ Type electrolytic MnO2 is put into a glass container and irradiated with microwaves of 2,450±50MHz in an electronic oven to lower the residual water content to 0.9% while maintaining the γ type crystal structure. Unlike the case of general heat treatment a temp. rise of MnO2 as a whole does not occur, so water is removed without dislocating the crystal structure.
