Abstract
PURPOSE:To stabilize the characteristic of a battery, which contains a negative electrode made of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, a nonaqueous electrolyte prepared by dissolving an electrolyte into an organic solvent, and a positive active material principally consisting of manganese dioxide, by using as the main component of the positive active material, manganese dioxide which is subjected to micro-wave discharging plasma treatment so as to remove the water contained in it. CONSTITUTION:A positive active material 2 principally consisting of, for example, manganese dioxide is packed in the lower part of a case 1 also serving as a positive terminal. Here, manganese dioxide used in preparing the positive active material 2 is given concentrating high energy by subjecting it to micro- wave discharging plasma treatment so as to make the water contained in it and including binding water to be removed before it is converted into inactive crystalline form. For instance, 94 parts of such a manganese dioxide is sufficiently mixed with 5 parts graphite and 1 part polytetrafluorocarbon, and the mixture is subjected to formation work so as to obtain the positive active material 2.
