Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a small nonaqueous-electrolyte battery with a high energy density which can be charged, by using gamma-Fe2O3 as the positive active material of the battery whose negative active material is lithium. CONSTITUTION:The positive active material of a battery is gamma-Fe2O3 which is obtained by a generally known method, and the negative active material is metal lithium. The electrolyte of this battery is prepared from a compound which is chemically stable to both the positive active material and lithium, and which moves lithium ions so as to make them undergo an electrochemical reaction with the positive active material.
