Abstract

PURPOSE: To generate bypass flow in molten steel and allow non metallic inclusions to float adequately by discharging the molten metal in a ladle to the wall side in an intermediate vessel by the use of a long nozzle closed in the bottom part.
CONSTITUTION: The molten metal in a ladle 1 flows out from a long nozzle 7-1 which is closed in the bottom part and has one discharge hole 8. This molten metal collides against the short side wall 9 of an intermediate vessel 2-1. After the molten steel is suppressed of dynamic pressure by this, it bypasses along each long side wall 10 at slow speeds and arrives at a nozzle 6, after which it is poured into a mold 3. By this mechanism, sufficient molten steel residence time is obtained, and the rate of floating of nonmetallic inclusions is increased.
