Abstract

PURPOSE:To cast a composite ingot of the component compositions which differ distinctly in the front layer part and in the inside by mixing two kinds of molten metals of different compositions by giving prescribed flow by means of electromagnetic force while drawing the same from a tundish. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal 4 is conducted from one vessel 1a of a tundish 1 into a mold 3 extending in a horizontal direction to form a solidified shell 5a. Next, molten metal 7 of the composition differing from that of the molten metal 4 from a vessel 1b is conducted by means of a charging pipe 6 to the inner side of the shell 5a formed by the secondary cooling after this. Force agitation is applied by means of electromagnetic stirring near the outlet of the pipe 6. Thereby, the molten metal 7 is thoroughly mixed with part of the metal 4, after which a solidified shell 5b of the different composition is formed in succession on the inside surface of the shell 5a.
