Abstract
PURPOSE:To extend the range of the quantity of light for an object while preventing vertical resolution from deterioration, by controlling a liquid-crystal shutter by providing said shutter between the object and a charge device. CONSTITUTION:As liquid-crystal cell 35 is applied with a voltage, the part of divided transparent electrode 33 becomes opaque and no incident light reaches CCD. As a result of the application of a voltage to a transfer electrode, the incident light reaches the part where a potential well is formed penetrating the liquid-crystal cell and charge is accumulated through photoelectric conversion. Since no light is incident to parts between potential wells, sensitivity never overlaps with another and the resolution is not deteriorated. Applying a voltage to liquid-crystal cell 36 permits light to penetrate only parts under electrodes that correspond to the potential well, so that the resolution is not deteriorated.
