Abstract

PURPOSE:To compensate a dark current precisely, by shielding the light for partial picture elements to output only the dark current. CONSTITUTION:A light shield is provided on odd-numbered picture elements 11 of a licensor 14 by vapor-deposition of aluminium or the like. An electric charge corresponding only to a dark current is stored in the picture element 11, and the sum of the electric charge corresponding to the dark current and an electric charge corresponding to a pickup object is stored in a picture element 12 without a light shield. These electric charges are transferred to shift registers 16A and 16B through a transfer gate 15 and are transferred in shift registers 16A and 16B and are amplified from an output terminal by amplifiers A1 and A2. The difference between outputs of amplifiers A1 and A2 is obtained to compensate the dark current, and the output is obtained.
