Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain picture information with a good S/N ratio in respective modes while facilitating control to the amount of picture information where a smear is hardly generated, by using a shutter for still pictures and specifying the scanning synchronism of an image pickup element even in still mode. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup device is provided with an image pickup element driver circuit DR1 for making a periodic scan on image pickup elements IC and a shutter driving magnet Mg which intercepts light incidence to a photodetection part in an image pickup means. Further, a successive mode switch SW1 and a still mode switch SW2 are provided and through the operation of the switch SW1 or SW2, a one-shot circuit OS1 or OS2 generates an output with prescribed pulse width. In the still mode set by the operation of the switch SW2, the timer consisting of a synchronizing signal generating circuit VSY and a counter CNT drives the magnet Mg for a specified time to intercept incident light to the photoreception part in the image pickup element ID, facilitating control to the amount of picture information where a smear is hardly generated.
