Abstract
PURPOSE:To make effective use of light for a solid-state image pickup element, by overlapping the optical transmittance disable region of an electrooptic optical control element on a region not contributed to the effective photoelectric conversion for image pickup output. CONSTITUTION:After a transparent insulation film 36 is coated on the surface of a CCD30, a transparent lower electrode 15 is formed on the surface entirely as a common electrode, a segment electrochromic coloring layer 17 and a switching element 20 are formed on it, and a transparent upper electrode 11 is formed on it. In this case, the opaque element 20 is placed on a transfer register 33 and the layer 17 is placed on a cell 31. Further, the drive line is placed on the register 33 and a readout register. Thus, the optical transmittence disable region of the electrochromic element 10 is opposingly placed to a region where no incident light is used, allowing to attain the effective use of light of the CCD30.
