Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an optical coupling end with high efficiency, by using a chemical solution which operates on a core member and a clad member, and is different in an etching speed for said members. CONSTITUTION:At first, a nylon cover 4 of the part to which working of an optical fiber is performed is removed, and after that, urethane resin adhering to the surface of the clad 2 is removed, it is cleaned, and its tip part is immersed into an etching solution. In this case, a conical core is exposed on the end by using a solution whose etching speed to the clad 2 is higher than that to the core 1. Subsequently, when this conical core part is irradiated by a CO2 gas laser beam, on the core surface which has been melted and softend, an almost parabolic lens is formed by surface tension. Accordingly, it is possible to obtain a tip ball fiber coupling mechanism with high efficiency, which is coupled with a surfce radial type luminous diode.
