Abstract

PURPOSE:To couple a light emission diode and an optical fiber holder by the maximum optical coupling quantity, by providing a supporting ring on the junction surface of said light emission diode and optical fiber holder, by use of a jig. CONSTITUTION:A supporting ring 17 is mounted on a jig 13 having an elliptical projection 15 which is slightly higher than a chip 3 of a light emission diode 1, a base 2 of the light emission diode 1 is fitted in, an adhesive is charged between a flange 8 and the supporting ring 17, is fixed, and the jig is removed. Subsequently, an end 21 of a holder 21 of an optical fiber 10 whose end 10a has been located on a table 22 is made to press-contact with an end 17a of the supporting ring 17, and they are relatively displaced by use of a fine adjustment base having a micrometer mechanism, the light emission diode is made to emit light, and both of them are fixed by an adhesive at a position of the maximum quantity of light obtained by the optical fiber 10. Since the holder end and the optical fiber end are on the same level, it is also easy to fix the optical fiber to the holder.
