Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten a casting cycle by performing the directional solidification for pouring molten metal and by forcibly cooling a riser right after the temperature of the molten metal in a cavity reaches the range of a solidification completed temperature.
CONSTITUTION: While solenoid valve 8 is kept closed under the initial control of controller 10, prescribed molten metal is poured from sprue 2 to fill cavity 5 and riser 6 as well. On the stop of the molten metal pouring, the timer of controller 10 is started. As the time passes, the temperature of the molten metal falls from the lower part of cavity 5 through directional solidification and the molten metal starts solidification at solidification start temperature T1. Then, t1 time later, the uppermost part B' of cavity 5 also reaches the range T3 of a solidification completed temperature, so that the inside of cavity 5 is in a solidification end state. At this point of time, air from compressed air source 7 is blown to riser 6 via flowing tube 9 with solenoid valve 8 opened by controller 10 previously set for forcible cooling, thereby quickening the release of the mold by shortening the time of cooling for riser.
