Abstract
PURPOSE: To cause directive freezing and prevent shrinkage cavity by giving temperature gradients in heating the casting mold.
CONSTITUTION: Refractories 16 are equipped to the low part of a metal frame 1 internally lined with refractories 5 and a casting mold 2 is set therein to a longitudinal posture. Next, all the heat generating elements 10, 11, 12 are simultaneously ignited to fire and heat the entire part of the casting mold 2 for the specified time. Next, all the heat generating elements 10 of the heating chamber 6 are strongly heated and all the heat generating elements 11 of the heating chamber 7 are medium-heated, prior to pouring. All the heat generating elements 12 in the heating chamber 8 are small-heated, and temperature gradients are given in the lengthwise direction of the casting molds 2 by control elements 13, 14, 15. The heat generating elements 10, 11 are so controlled by controlling the control elements 13, 14 that the heating chamber 6 near the head part and the heating chamber 7 in the central part becomes of small heating after pouring of molten metal through the heat part 3. Further, in the heating chamber 8 at the terminal part, the generating elements 12 are stopped by closing the control elements 15 to cause directive freezing in the product part 4, whereby the casting which is thin-walled and has small change in the lengthwise section is cast.
