Abstract
PURPOSE: To control slab to the optimum temperature for the case when high temperature hot working is to be immediately done in succession by making the slab temperature to an evenly high temperature state in a short time or adequately controlling the temperature gradient in the slab prior to continuous casting thereby minimizing its allowances.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 1 is poured into a mold 6 and is cooled. The slab 2 in which solidified part 3 has been formed on the surface is further cooled with a cooling unit 7 to increase the thickness of the solidified part 3. Following to this, the temperature of the slab 2, the thickness of the solidied part and pulling speed are detected by a temperature detecting end 11, solidified part thickness detecting end 12 and pulling speed detecting end 13. The device 7, slab outside heater 8, slab inside heater 9 and working rolls 10 are controlled with respect to the preset cooling curve by the signals of the respective detecting ends. As a result of this, the outside surfaces of the slab 2 are cooled and heated and the pulling speed of the slab 2 is regulated and in the final the outside surface and inside temperatures of the slab 2 are made evenly to the preset target temperatures or adequate temperature gradient, thence the slab is sent to the working process where it is worked.
