Abstract

PURPOSE: To form each layer as the film of an optimum state and obtain the captioned display cell of long life and high reliability by subsequently laminating the 1st electrode film, dielectric film, electrochromic material film and 2nd electrode film.
CONSTITUTION: The 1st electrode layer (e.g., Au thin film of about several hundreds Å or less in thickness) 10 is formed on a trasparent glass substrate 9 and Cr2O3, LiF or the like is laminated at about several thousands Å by a PVD method thereon while the substrate is being heated to about 300°C or more, whereby a dielectric film 11 is formed. On this is next laminated EC material to about 0.3W 1μ at substrate heating temperature about 250°C or less to form an EC material film 12, after which the pattern parts 13 and lead part 14 being the 2nd electrode film are further provided thereon to provide the fully solid type electrochromic display cell. Here, the stability of the cell may be additionally improved by covering the film forming surface with a water-repellent film 17 after the formation of the cell of the abovementioned constitution.
