Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent corrosion of a glaze layer in a substrate with hydrofluoric acid substance when forming a resistance layer pattern and to enable to conduct a high- quality printing, by a method wherein, in a thermal head, a substrate protection layer is formed between the substrate and the resistance layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal head which is formed such that a resistance layer 12, an electrode band 13, and an abrasion resistance layer 14 are laminated in order named above on an upper surface of a glazed ceramic substrate 11, a substrate protection layer 15, consisting of tantalum oxide having a complete insulation property, is located between the substrate 11 and a resistance layer 12. This prevents corrosion of the glaze layer in the substrate even if a hydrofluoric acid medicine is used when forming the pattern of the resistance layer. As a result, a yield at the time of forming the pattern of the resistance layer 12, is improved, and the surface of the abrasion resistant layer 14 can be reduced in the unevenness. This improves contact of a platen roller with a thermal head and enables to perform a high-quality printing.
