Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a head having good thermal responding and wear resisting chracteristics and capable of performing printing of good quality, by providing a thin film metallic layer on a part of an oxidation-inhibiting film of the thermal head, and further, by forming a hard substance, which is to become a wear resisting layer, by using plating process.
CONSTITUTION: A glass glaze layer 2, a heat-generating resistor 3 and an electrode 4 are provided on an insulating substrate 1, and an oxidation-inhibiting film 5, such as SiO2, etc., is provided. A thin film metal, which has good adhesion to the oxidation-inhibiting film 5, is made to adhere onto the film by evaporating process or spattering process to form a plating base metal 7. By coating photoresist on the entire surface of this base metal 7 by a spinner, a base metal 8 is formed immediately above the heat-generating resistor 2 into almost same shape as the heat-generating resistor 2. And then, a wear resisting layer 9 of nickel, etc. is formed on the base metal 8 by plating process.
