Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the irregularity of printing arising from a voltage drop at a common electrode of a parallel drive type thermal head by making the common electrode thickner than individual electrodes, and to prevent the common electrode from abrasion by coating it with a protective film.
CONSTITUTION: A belt-shaped conductor 18 is provided on an end part of a ceramic substrate 10, a belt-shaped thin film conductor 19 formed as one body with the individual electrodes 8 is provided on the conductor 18, and the common electrode 6 is made to be thicker than the individual electrodes 8, 9. As a result, even when a pluraity of heating resistors 4 are driven simultaneously, the voltage drop at the common electrode is reduced. Therefore, a constantly fixed voltage is applied to the resistors 4, resulting in less irregularity of printing. Since an abrasion-resisting film 20 which is provided over the heating resistors 4 and the individual electrodes 8, 9 for protecting them from abrasion due to contact with a heat-sensitive paper is extended 21 over the common electrode 6, the abrasion of the common electrode 6 and a rise in electrical resistance can be prevented.
