Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable high-density printing and a reduction in size, by disposing a belt-shaped common electrode between a heat generating electrode array and a controlling IC, and disposing discrete electrodes connected to the resistors on the common electrode in an intersecting manner, via an intermediate insulator layer located therebetween. CONSTITUTION:On belt-shaped common electrodes 10, 10 disposed substantially in parallel between an array of heat generating resistors 2 and an array of controlling ICs 6, the resistors 2 and the discrete electrodes 3a are disposed in an intersecting manner, with an intermediate insulator layer 11 formed from a glass paste provided therebetween. A thin-film common electrode 3b is connected through the resistors 2 to the common electrode 10 opposite to the common electrode 10 provided on the side of the discrete electrodes 3a. The resistance of the common electrode 3b is preferably as low as possible, from the viewpoint of electrical characteristics of the thermal head. Therefore, the line width of the common electrode 3b is sufficiently increased to thereby prevent an increase in the resistance of the electrode 3b.
