Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a thermal head that can perform clear printing by heating the printing pate within a short period, though the constitution is relatively simple, wherein voltage is applied between a first conductive layer and a second conductive layer with a reistor layer situated therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A printing part 12 is formed on the surface of a ceramic base plate 11, and positive and negative electrodes 13a, 13b are attached to opposite sides of the base plate 11. On the conductive layer 14 of the printing part 12, the resistor layer 15 for forming letters and an insulating layer 16 for not forming letters are formed, and on the resistor layer 15 and the insulating layer 16 the second conductive layer 17 is formed. On the conductive layer 17 a protective layer 18 of insulating material for protecting the whole printing surace is formed, and the conductive layers 14, 17 are respectively connected to the positive electrode 13a or the negative electrode 13b.
