Abstract
PURPOSE: When films of platinum group metal are formed on the electrode base plate, the formation of the film on the interface of the base plate is effected under heating of the plate and the other film formation operation thereafter is conducted at a temperature of lower than that in the first formation to increase the durability without adverse effect on color-developing response.
CONSTITUTION: The electrode base metal having a transparent electrode (SnO2) layer is metallized under vacuum with a platinum group metal alone such as osmium, iridium, platinum, palladium, rhodium or ruthenium or its alloy under heating to, e.g., 250°C to form films on the interface of the base plate with a thickness of less than 200Å, e.g., 30Å. Then, the temperature of the base plate is lowered to 20°C and vacuum metallization is effected to form films, e.g., of 360Å thickness. Finally, the resultant 2 or more layers are subjected to anode oxidation to give the objective electrochromic display.
