Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain high quality steel having few central defects stably regardless of pouring temperature, by electromagnetically agitating an arbitrary point in a secondary cooling band having a specified dimension in the cross-sectional surface of red solidified part of the captioned steel unit the solid phase rate reaches 0.3W0.6.
CONSTITUTION: In a continuous casting machine for vertical bend type billets, steel equivalent to SWR H82A was cast under the conditions of mold dimension: 115mmϕ, pouring temperature: 1490W1495°C, and drawing speed: 2.4m/min. At this time, by variously changing the position and duration of electromagnetic agitaion, the rate of solid phase quantity precipitated in the unsolidified part during agitation to the unsolidified quantity when starting electromagnetic agitation (the solid phase rate), and the carbon segregation rate of the steel pieces obtained were measured, and the relation thereof was obtained as shown in the graph. Therefore, electromagnetic agitation is started from the solid phase rate 0 and is continued until the solid phase rate becomes 0.3W0.6. This agitation should be preferably done in the secondary cooling band, and it is also preferable to start at a point where the minimum width of the cross-sectional surface of this unsolidified part is 25mm or more.
