Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain aluminum alloy castings of good airtightness and mechanical properties by specifying die temp., cooling water flow and cooling starting time.
CONSTITUTION: After die heating temp. is kept at 200W400°C, the dies are water- cooled at water flow rates of 60W500l/min.m2 before molten metal is poured into the dies. Before the water cooling effect reaches the inside surface of the dies, the molten metal is poured and the cooling is continuted until after the completion of the freezing of the casting. This makes possible the production of the aluminum alloy casting which is free from any surface defects, has fine crystal grain sizes of the casting surface and casting inside and has consequently superior airtightness and mechanical properties. In addition, the good casting is produced without being affected by die ratios.
