Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of breakout at the time of stripping an ingot from a casting ring by inserting a coolant having straightening length into a mold and accelerating the solidification of the solidifying layer on the surface side in contact with the casting ring in an initial period of casting.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of starting casting, a coolant 16 regulated to length about 0.3W1.0 times the diameter of a casting ring 8 is disposed in the upper part at the leading end of an ingot pulling dummy bar 2 along the circumferential surface of the casting ring. Next, while molten steel 5 is being injected into a mold 1, the ring 8 is driven and the molten steel 5 is allowed to solidify on the contact surface of the ring 8 and a belt 13. Thence, the leading end of the ingot 10 out from the mold 1 goes to a stripping knife part 9 along the dummy bar 2 and is thereby stripped.
