Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a metal ingot having excellent cast surface in the solidification of molten metal, by giving oscillation of a specific high frequency to the metal so as to prevent the inclusion of air bubbles in the solidified metal. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous casting, 5-50kHz high frequency oscillation generated by a high frequency oscillator 4 is transferred through a horn 5 to the copper plate part 2 of a casting mold by means of an oscillation-transferring plate 6. As a result, the high frequency oscillation is transferred to the steel solidifying from the surface layer while the molten metal descends along the wall surface of the mold and is cooled by a water cooling box 3, hence air bubbles included in the surface layer of the molten steel are scattered and removed. Hereby no gas holes are formed in the surface layer of the ingot, consequently the extant of mending required after rolling is reduced. When the molten steel is solidified after poured into a mold, an ingot having an excellent cross sectional shape is obtained by giving high frequency oscillation to the molten steel to the course of the solidification, through the mold on a molding board.
