Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title structure capable of extending its igniting zone to obtain a high-quality large single crystal without esp. raising the temp. of a furnace by setting a flange at the opening edge of a crucible for growing a single crystal by the Bridgman method.
CONSTITUTION: Crucible 10 is a tubular body having conic tip 11, and opening edge 12 is provided with flange 13 whose outer peripheral part 14 is dropped 15. Raw material pellets are charged into crucible 10 from edge 12. The lower part of crucible 10 is supported by a support which can be moved in furnace core tube 12, and crucible 10 is moved vertically. After melting all of the pellets in crucible 10 crucible 10 is lowered to grow a single crystal in the whole crucible. When crucible 10 is placed in tube 21, flange 13 prevents heat from escaping upward, and thus the igniting zone of crucible 10 can be extended to give a high-quality large single crystal.
