Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an Fe type sintered alloy having high strength, high toughness and a low sintering temp. by mixing Fe powder and fine powder of a eutectic alloy or a compound of P and Mn, Ni, Cu or Sn followed by compacting and sintering.
CONSTITUTION: This sintered alloy consists of P 0.05W0.50%, one or more among Mn, Ni, Cu and Sn 0.3W5% and the balance Fe. C 0.3W5% may be contained to further enhance the strength of the alloy. Fine powder of a eutectic alloy or a compound of P and Mn, Ni, Cu or Si is manufactured by an atomizing method and further pulverized to fine powder of 40μm or less with a ball mill or the like. This powder is blended with Fe fine powder and C powder as required so that the predetermined final composition is obtd., and the blend is well mixed and compacted. This green compact is then sintered at a temp. slightly higher than the liquidus line of the eutectic alloy or the compound.
