Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material having superior neutron absorbing capacity as well as superior workability and corrosion resistance by mixing metal boride powder into stainless steel powder having a predetermined composition in a specified vol. ratio followed by compacting and sintering.
CONSTITUTION: 1W55pts.vol. metallic boride powder is mixed into atomized powder of Cr, Cr-Mo, Ni-Cr or Ni-Cr-Mo stainless steel consisting of ≤0.15% C, 0.5W4% Si, ≤0.6% Mn, 7W50% Cr, ≤25% Ni, ≤5% Cu, ≤5% Ti, ≤5% Nb and the balance Fe, or further contg. ≤4% B. This mixed powder is then compacted and sintered to obtain a composite material.
