Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a self-lubricating sintered member with superior performance by adding MoS2 as a solid lubricant to Cu-base starting material contg. Sn, Fe and Mn followed by compacting and sintering.
CONSTITUTION: To a powdered mixture consisting of 3W9% Sn, 3'10% Fe, 4W 10% Mn, 10W30% MoS2 and the balance Cu are added a binder for the components and a 0.1wt% aqueous soln. of an alginate such as ammonium alginate as a porosity increasing agent for sintering by several %. This wet mixed starting material is dried to evaporate water and compacted under 3W5 ton/cm2 pressure. This green compact is then sintered by heating at 700W800°C for 10W30min in the air. Thus, a self-lubricating sintered member free from a lowering in the mechanical strength and lubricity even at ≥300°C is obtd. using MoS2 as a solid lubricant.
