Abstract

(57)【要約】 【課題】 繊維強化樹脂成形体同士を接合するに際し
て、その接合部の機械的強度等の低下を防止することが
できる新規な溶着方法の提供。 【解決手段】 熱可塑性樹脂からなる母材3中に強化繊
維4が埋め込まれた繊維強化樹脂成形体1を形成すると
共に、これら繊維強化樹脂成形体1同士の接合部6をそ
れぞれ強化繊維4の一部が表面に露出するように加熱溶
融した後、その溶融部2,2同士を加圧成形しながら溶
着する。これによって、その接合部6に強化繊維4が相
互に絡み合って連続した状態で存在することになるた
め、その接合部6の機械的強度が低下することなく良好
な接合を行える。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、熱可塑性樹脂から
なる母材中に強化繊維が埋め込まれた繊維強化樹脂成形
体の溶着方法に関するものである。
【0002】
【従来の技術及び発明が解決しようとする課題】一般
に、熱可塑性樹脂からなる母材中に強化繊維が埋め込ま
れた繊維強化樹脂複合材料は、成形が容易な上に、軽量
で、且つ場合によっては金属以上の優れた機械的強度を
発揮することから、乗用車やトラック等のバンパービー
ム等の材料として用いられている。
【0003】ところで、このような繊維強化樹脂複合材
料にて形成された成形体a,a同士を接合するために
は、図6に示すようにボルトb等による機械的接合の他
に、図7に示すように接着剤c等を用いた化学的接合方
法が考えられているが、これらの接合方法では以下に示
すような欠点がある。
【0004】すなわち、ボルトc等による機械的接合の
場合では、ボルト孔dの切削等の機械加工が必要になる
上に、点接合のため、充分な接合強度を得ることが困難
であった。しかも、ボルトc等の接合部材が成型体表面
に露出するため、美観上好ましくない。
【0005】一方、接着剤等を用いた化学的接合方法の
場合では、繊維強化樹脂複合材料で成形された成形体a
が成形時に表面が樹脂リッチ層eとなって強化繊維fが
存在しないことから、強度の低い樹脂リッチ層e同士の
みが接合されて繊維強化された部分は接合されない。そ
のため、接合部の機械的強度が母材gの強度より大幅に
低下してしまい、場合によっては母材g強度の半分以下
の荷重で亀裂が入ったり、剥離してしまうといった問題
点がある。
【0006】そこで、本発明はこのような課題を有効に
解決するために案出されたものであり、その目的は、繊
維強化樹脂成形体同士を接合するに際して、その接合部
の美観及び機械的強度の低下等を防止することができる
新規な繊維強化樹脂成形体の溶着方法を提供するもので
ある。

【課題を解決するための手段】上記課題を解決するため
に本発明は、熱可塑性樹脂からなる母材中に強化繊維が
埋め込まれた繊維強化樹脂成形体を形成すると共に、こ
れら繊維強化樹脂成形体同士の接合部をそれぞれ強化繊
維の一部が表面に露出するように加熱溶融した後、その
溶融部同士を加圧成形しながら溶着するようにしたもの
である。
【0008】従って、その接合部においては、両繊維強
化樹脂成形体中の強化繊維が相互に絡み合って連続した
状態で存在することになるため、その接合部の機械的強
度が低下することはない。また、溶着による方法である
ため、ボルトなどの機械的接合のような美観の低下を招
くこともない。

【発明の実施の形態】次に、本発明を実施する好適一形
態を添付図面を参照しながら詳述する。
【0010】本発明に係る繊維強化樹脂成形体の溶着方
法は、例えば、図1(A)に示すように、予め板状ある
いは角材状に成形された繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1端部
の接合部分を加熱溶融して溶融部2,2を形成する加熱
溶融工程と、図1(B)に示すように、この溶融部2,
2同士を圧着して接合成形する加圧接合成形工程とから
なっている。
【0011】ここで本発明方法の対象となる繊維強化樹
脂成形体1は、スチレン系、アクリル系、セルロース
系、ポリエチレン系等の熱可塑性樹脂からなる母材3中
に炭素繊維やガラス繊維等の強化繊維4を埋め込んで母
材3の強度を向上させたいわゆる複合材料であり、その
表層部には、美観のために強化繊維4が殆ど存在しない
樹脂リッチ層5が形成されている。
【0012】そして、本発明は図示するようにこの繊維
強化樹脂成形体1の接合部分を板厚tに対してその30
〜80%深さまで加熱することで、表層部の樹脂リッチ
層5のみならず、その内部の強化繊維4を含む母材3の
部分まで溶融させて内部の強化繊維4をその溶融部2側
へは勿論、さらにその溶融部2の表面にまで露出させた
状態とした後、図1(B)に示すように、その溶融部
2,2同士を圧着させて接合し、その後、この接合部6
を冷却して固化することで両繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1
を一体的に接合するようにしたものである。
【0013】従って、その接合部においては、両繊維強
化樹脂成形体1,1中の強化繊維4が相互に絡み合って
連続した状態で接合部6中で固形化させるため、その接
合部6の機械的性質は、繊維強化樹脂成形体1の本体と
同等の強度を発揮することが可能となり、亀裂や剥離が
発生することなく良好な接合を行うことができる。
【0014】次に、本発明の具体的実施の形態を説明す
る。
【0015】図2及び図3は、本発明の第一工程である
加熱溶融工程を行うための加熱溶融装置の実施の一形態
を示したものである。
【0016】先ず、図2に示す加熱溶融装置は、繊維強
化樹脂成形体1を載置する架台10と、繊維強化樹脂成
形体1の接合部を加熱溶融すべく複数の赤外線ヒータ1
1,11,11,11を備えた加熱炉12とから構成さ
れたものである。そして、図示するように、この架台1
0上に予め板状あるいは角材状に成形された繊維強化樹
脂成形体1,1を、一定の間隔をおいて突き合わせるよ
うに載置した後、その突き合わせ端部の接合面の上方
に、加熱炉12を位置させ、赤外線ヒータ11より照射
される遠赤外線あるいは近赤外線によりその接合面を母
材3の融点、例えば、PP系GF40%fの場合で21
0℃に加熱して母材3を溶融させる。このとき、加熱範
囲及び溶融深さは個々の製品要求スペックに基づき決定
されるが、溶融深さとしては上述したように例えば板厚
tの30〜80%の範囲で行えば、母材3中に閉じ込め
られていた強化繊維4部分が母材3の溶融と共に溶融部
2までに移動してきてその一部が溶融部表面まで露出し
た状態となることが確認されている。また、加熱範囲
は、加熱炉12の開口縁部に設けられた調整フェンス1
3の大きさ等を調整することによって行うことができ
る。
【0017】一方、図3に示す加熱溶融装置は、繊維強
化樹脂成形体1を載置する架台10の端部に、その溶融
部を囲繞するように加熱炉12を設けたものである。そ
して、同じくこの架台10上に予め板状あるいは角材状
に成形された繊維強化樹脂成形体1を設置すると共に、
その端部を覆うようにヒーター11を位置させること
で、接合部上面のみならず端部まで纏めて加熱溶融する
ことができる。尚、図3に示すように、加熱範囲が大き
くてその溶融部が一気に溶け落ちてしまうおそれがある
場合には、予めこの溶融部の肉厚を厚くしておいても良
い。
【0018】次に、このような加熱溶融工程を経た繊維
強化樹脂成形体1,1をその溶融部が固化する前に加圧
接合成形工程によって接合することになるが、この加圧
接合成形工程としては、例えば、図4及び図5に示すよ
うな加圧接合成形装置を用いて行うことができる。
【0019】図4に示す加圧接合成形装置は、図2に示
す加熱溶融工程を経た繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1を載置
する下型14と、この下型14上の繊維強化樹脂成形体
1,1を加圧接合成形する上型15とから構成されてい
る。
【0020】この下型14にはコイルスプリング16な
どで昇降する昇降台17が設けられており、この昇降台
17上に一方の繊維強化樹脂成形体1が昇降自在に載置
されると共に、他方の繊維強化樹脂成形体1がこの下型
14上に直接載置されるようになっている。一方、上型
15には、繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1をそれぞれ押さえ
付ける先行シールブロック18,18と、後行シールブ
ロック19が同じくコイルスプリング16などによって
上型15に対して昇降自在に設けられている。
【0021】従って、図4(A)に示すように、下型1
4上に繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1をその溶融部が向き合
った状態に載置した後、上型15を押し下げると、図4
(B)に示すように、先ず先行シールブロック18,1
8が両繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1を下型14上に押さえ
付けることによって両溶融部2,2が接触した後、さら
に後行シールブロック19と上型本体が降りてくること
によってその溶融部2,2が圧着されて接合と成形が同
時に行われることになる。尚、この接合部6が充分溶着
して固化したならば上型15を上昇させた後、成形体を
離型することになるが、この際、昇降台17がコイルス
プリング16によって上昇するように付勢されているた
め、上型15の上昇と同時に成形体が持ち上げられて下
型14から離型が容易に行われることになる。
【0022】また、図3に示す加熱溶融工程を経た繊維
強化樹脂成形体1,1を溶着する場合には図5に示すよ
うな加圧接合成形装置を用いることになる。
【0023】この加熱接合成形装置は下型20及び上型
21にそれぞれ先行シールブロック22,23をコイル
スプリング16,16等によってそれぞれ昇降自在に備
えたものであり、図5(A)に示すように、この下型2
0と上型21との間に図3に示す加熱溶融工程を経た繊
維強化樹脂成形体1,1の溶融部2,2を上下に位置さ
せた後、図5(B)に示すように上型21を降下させて
溶融部2,2をシールしながら挟み込むようにしたもの
である。これによって、上記と同様その接合部が圧着さ
れて溶融部2,2同士の接合と成形が同時に行われるこ
とになる。尚、図中24は繊維強化樹脂成形体1,1の
ずれなどを防止するための位置決めロッドである。

【発明の効果】以上要するに本発明によれば、繊維強化
樹脂成形体の接合部を加熱溶融させて強化繊維部分まで
溶着するようにしたため、接合部の機械的性質を低下さ
せることなく接合することができる。従って、その接合
部の機械的強度も高くなるため、亀裂や剥離が発生する
ことなく信頼性の高い複合樹脂成形体の接合を行うこと
ができる等といった優れた効果を発揮することができ
る。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】 熱可塑性樹脂からなる母材中に強化繊維
    が埋め込まれた繊維強化樹脂成形体を形成すると共に、
    これら繊維強化樹脂成形体同士の接合部をそれぞれ強化
    繊維の一部が表面に露出するように加熱溶融した後、そ
    の溶融部同士を加圧成形しながら溶着するようにしたこ
    とを特徴とする繊維強化樹脂成形体の溶着方法。
  2. 【請求項2】 上記繊維強化樹脂成形体の溶融深さをそ
    の板厚の30〜80%としたことを特徴とする請求項1
    記載の繊維強化樹脂成形体の溶着方法。
