Description
の2つの異なる波長で動作する光ディスクに関する。
記録・再生を行う光ディスクメモリーは、大容量性、高
速アクセス性、媒体可搬性を兼ね備えた記憶媒体として
音声、画像、計算機データなど各種ファイルに実用化さ
れており、今後もその発展が期待されている。光ディス
クの高密度化技術としては、原盤カッティング用ガスレ
ーザーの短波長化、動作光源である半導体レーザーの短
波長化、対物レンズの高開口数化、光ディスクの薄板化
が考えられている。さらに記録可能な光ディスクにおい
ては、マーク長記録、ランド・グルーブ記録など種々の
アプローチがある。
い技術として、媒体膜を利用する超解像再生技術が提案
されている。超解像再生技術は、当初、光磁気ディスク
特有の技術として提案された。その後、ROMディスク
でも、記録層に対して再生ビームの入射側に再生ビーム
の照射により透過率が変化する超解像膜を設けて超解像
再生する試みが報告されている。このように、超解像再
生技術は光磁気ディスク、CD−ROM、CD−R、W
ORM、相変化光ディスクなど全ての光ディスクに適用
可能なことが明らかになった。
ォトンモード方式に大別される。従来提案されている超
解像膜の例について説明する。ヒートモード方式では、
超解像膜として相変化材料を用い、再生ビームの照射に
よって超解像膜を加熱して相変化を起こし、再生ビーム
スポットよりも小さい光学開口を形成する。この光学開
口の形状は、超解像膜の等温線に従う。この光学開口の
サイズは、環境温度の影響により変動しやすいため、光
ディスクの線速に合わせて厳密に熱制御することが必要
になる。また、ヒートモード方式の超解像膜は、再生時
および記録時の熱疲労により、十分な繰り返し安定性を
得るのが困難である。
フォトクロミック材料を用い、再生ビームの照射による
発色または消色を利用して光学マスクまたは光学開口を
形成する。フォトクロミック材料は、光照射により電子
が基底準位から寿命の短い励起準位へ励起し、さらに電
子が励起準位から寿命の非常に長い準安定励起準位へ遷
移して捕捉されることにより、光吸収特性の変化を生じ
る。したがって、繰り返して再生するには、準安定励起
準位に捕捉された電子を基底準位へ脱励起して光学開口
を閉じる必要がある。しかし、脱励起のために補助ビー
ムを照射するため、2ビーム動作となり、高速応答には
不利である。また、フォトクロミック材料では、原子移
動または分子の結合の変化を伴う複雑な過程を経て透過
率変化が生じるので、繰り返し安定性は1万回程度が限
界である。
実現するためには、実用的な再生パワーで超解像膜の透
過率変化が起こり、その変化量が大きく、再生ビームス
ポットの通過時間程度の短時間で高速に光学開口を形成
でき、繰り返し再生に対して安定な超解像膜が要求され
る。

スポットサイズが小さくなり、狭ピッチで記録マーク列
を形成できるためである。例えば、DVD−ROM、D
VD−RAMは、現状では約640nmの波長の半導体
レーザーを用いて記録、再生、消去を行っている。しか
し、将来的にさらなる高密度化を図るためには、波長4
10nmの青色半導体レーザーが使用される可能性が高
い。
スクドライブで光ディスクに狭ピッチの記録マーク列を
記録し、この光ディスクを光源波長が640nmである
現状の光ディスクドライブで再生する場合を考える。こ
の場合、狭ピッチのマーク列に対してスポットサイズの
大きい再生ビームが照射されるため、符号間干渉が大き
くなり、十分な再生信号強度を得ることが困難である。

できるように調整したとしても、長波長の光で十分な再
生信号が得られるようにしようとすると、短波長の光で
本来実現できるマークピッチよりも広いマークピッチで
記録しなければならず、記録密度が制限されるという問
題がある。このように、複数の波長に対して互換性のあ
る光ディスクを提供することは困難である。
長の光で狭ピッチに記録し、長波長の光で読み出すこと
ができる光ディスクを提供することにある。

ィスク基板と、光照射により透過率が変化する超解像膜
と、記録層とを有し、前記超解像膜が長波長の光照射に
より透過率が変化することを特徴とする。

数に対応する領域(光学開口の大きさ)をいう。

を示す。図の光ディスクは、ディスク基板1上に、超解
像膜2、第1干渉層3、記録層4、第2干渉層5および
反射層6が形成された構造を有する。再生ビームは基板
1側から、超解像膜2および第1干渉層3を通して記録
層4に入射する。このように、超解像膜2は記録層4に
対して再生ビームが入射する側に形成される。記録層4
からの反射光は光検出器により検出され、この光検出器
の出力信号が処理されて再生信号が生成される。なお、
図1では超解像膜2は1層であるが、後述するように積
層構造の超解像膜を用いてもよい。
ォトン数(N)依存性を示す。図2は、超解像膜2が照
射フォトン数Np をしきい値として透過率が急峻に変わ
ることを示しており、Np 以下のフォトン数では光の透
過率が低く、Np 以上のフォトン数では透過率が高い。
本発明に係る超解像膜は長波長の再生ビームに対して図
2の透過率特性を示す。また、本発明に係る超解像膜は
長波長の再生ビームだけでなく、短波長の再生ビームに
対しても、図2の透過率特性を示すものであってもよ
い。なお、超解像膜がヒートモード系の材料である場合
には、図2の横軸が膜温度となる。
る図1の光ディスクを再生するときの、記録マーク列、
再生ビームスポット、光学開口の関係を示す。図3にお
いて、TRは記録トラックを意味し、TRi は再生を行
っているトラック、TRi-1、TRi+1 は隣接トラック
である。Sは再生ビームスポットのe-2径を示し、Mは
記録層に形成された記録マークを示す。本発明に用いら
れる光ディスクは、短波長のレーザービームによる記録
・再生に対応してトラックピッチが狭くなっている。ま
た、短波長の記録ビームにより記録マーク列も狭ピッチ
で形成される。このため、図3に示されるように、長波
長の再生ビームを照射すると、スポット径の中に、2個
以上の記録マークが存在している。したがって、超解像
膜を設けていない光ディスクでは、符号間干渉が大きく
マークを個別に識別できない。
再生ビームのパワーを適切に設定すれば、入射フォトン
数の多い領域のみで透過率が高くなる。この入射フォト
ン数は、再生ビームスポットに対するディスクの移動時
間にわたって積分したフォトン数である。図3では、領
域Aで透過率が高くなっている。領域A以外の領域で
は、実質的に光が透過しない。再生信号に寄与するの
は、再生ビームスポットSと領域Aとが重なる部分の記
録層である。したがって、本発明では、超解像膜を設け
ていない光ディスクでは識別不能な、短波長の記録ビー
ムで記録された高密度の記録マークであっても、容易に
識別できる。また、従来の光ディスクでは隣接トラック
上の記録マークMi-1 およびMi+1 とのクロストークも
生じるが、本発明では隣接トラック上の記録マークM
i-1 およびMi+1 とのクロストークも生じない。

変化する超解像膜と短波長の光照射により透過率が変化
する超解像膜との積層構造を有するものを用いた場合に
は、短波長でも超解像再生が可能になる。
まで、ある程度の応答速度があるために、光スポットが
通過した後に光学開口が形成されている状態を示してい
るが、応答速度が非常に速い場合は、光スポット内に光
学開口が形成される。
退色性色素などのヒートモード系材料、またはフォトク
ロミック材料、フォトブリーチング材料、半導体膜もし
くは半導体微粒子分散膜などのフォトンモード系材料か
ら適当に選択して用いることができる。
する透過率が変化するものであり、例えばカルコゲン系
のGeSbTe、AgInSbTeなどが挙げられる。
フォトクロミック材料としては、ピロベンゾピラン系分
子、フルギド系分子、ジアリールエテン系分子、シクロ
ファン系分子、アゾベンゼンなどが挙げられる。
膜からなる超解像膜を用い、吸収飽和現象による透過率
変化を利用することが好ましい。吸収飽和とは、半導体
に光を照射したときに、基底状態にある電子が励起状態
に遷移して保持され、基底状態にある電子が減少する結
果、半導体がもはや光を吸収しなくなる現象をいう。半
導体は、吸収飽和して光を吸収しなくなると、透過率が
上がる。本発明の超解像膜を有する光ディスクに再生ビ
ームを照射すると、再生ビームスポット内のフォトン数
の多い領域すなわち中央部に対応して、超解像膜に吸収
飽和が起こり、再生ビームスポットよりも小さい光学開
口が形成される。この光学開口を通して記録層の記録マ
ークを検出することにより、超解像再生を実施できる。
が基底準位から上準位へと遷移して吸収飽和することを
利用するので、半導体の選択基準の1つとして、エネル
ギーギャップ(禁制帯幅)が再生ビームのエネルギーに
ほぼ相当することが挙げられる。励起に関与する2つの
準位は、価電子帯、禁制帯中の不純物準位、励起子準
位、伝導帯から選択される。超解像膜として半導体微粒
子分散膜を用いる場合には、長波長(または長波長およ
び短波長)の動作波長に応じて、適切な半導体材料を選
択するとともに半導体微粒子の粒径および体積含有率を
調整することによりエネルギーギャップを適切に調整す
ることができる。
ける吸収飽和を利用しても、半導体微粒子分散膜と同様
に超解像膜動作を行うことができる。本発明の光ディス
クでは、干渉層の材料、記録層の材料、反射層の材料は
特に限定されない。干渉層の材料としては、SiO2 、
Si3 N4 、Ta2 O5 、TiO2 、ZnS−SiO2
などの透明誘電体を用いることができる。記録層の材料
としては、TbFeCo、GdFeCo、Pt/Co、
MnBi、ガーネット、フェライトなどの光磁気材料、
GeSbTe、AgInSbTeなどに代表される相変
化材料、フォトクロミック材料に代表されるフォトンモ
ード記録材料などを用いることができる。反射層の材料
としてはAl合金、Au、Cu、Agなどに代表される
高反射率の金属材料を用いることが可能である。本発明
は光磁気ディスク、DVD−ROM、DVD−R、DV
D−RW、CD−ROM、CD−R、CD−RW、WO
RMなどに適用できる。
する。 実施例1 ガラス基板上に超解像膜のみを成膜してその性質を調べ
た。超解像膜としてCdTe微粒子をSiO2 母材に分
散させた半導体微粒子分散膜を使用した。マグネトロン
スパッタ装置にガラス基板、CdTeターゲット、Si
O2 ターゲットを装着し、2元同時スパッタ時にCdT
eターゲット、SiO2 ターゲットに投入するRF電力
比を変えて、膜中のCdTe微粒子の粒径、体積含有率
を変化させて、CdTe微粒子分散膜を成膜した。Cd
Te体積含有率を20vol%、50vol%、100
vol%と変化させた粒径5nmの微粒子分散膜を50
nmの厚さに形成した。ただし、体積含有率100vo
l%はCdTe連続膜を意味する。
(T)の波長(λ)依存性を調べた結果を示す。CdT
eの体積含有率が100vol%の連続膜は禁制帯幅E
g(約1.5eV)に相当する波長(約820nm)で
透過率が急激に変化している。CdTeの体積含有率が
20vol%および50vol%の分散膜では、それぞ
れ約650nmおよび約700nmの波長で透過率が急
激に変化している。これは、微粒子化により禁制帯幅E
gが大きくなったためである。また、700nmよりも
短い波長領域での透過率は、CdTeの体積含有率が小
さい20vol%の膜の方が、50vol%の膜よりも
高くなっている。
vol%とし、CdTe微粒子の粒径を2nm、5n
m、10nmと変化させた膜を50nmの厚さに形成
し、同様に透過率の波長依存性を調べた。その結果、粒
径が2nm、5nm、10nmの順で透過率が急激に変
化する波長が650nm、700nm、790nmと長
波長側にシフトした。これは、粒径が小さいほどサイズ
効果により禁制帯幅Egが大きくなるためである。
含有率20%のCdTe微粒子分散膜に対し、波長65
0nmの半導体レーザーを光源として15mWまでのパ
ワーの光を照射して透過率を調べた。図5に、透過率
(T)の光パワー(P)依存性を示す。透過率は、2m
W以下のパワーでは約30%であるが、2.5mWで約
60%、3mW以上ではほぼ100%になることがわか
る。これは、3mW以上のパワーで波長650nmの光
の吸収が飽和することを示している。
和する強度のポンプ光を用いてポンプ・プローブ法によ
る時間分解測定を行ったところ、ポンプ光照射後に透過
率が立ち上がるまでの時間は数ns、透過率がポンプ光
照射前のレベルに戻るまでの時間は30nsであった。
1中に、粒径2nmのCdTe微粒子22を体積含有率
20%で分散させたCdTe微粒子分散膜からなる超解
像膜2を用いて図1と同様な構造の光ディスクを作製し
た。
源に対応させて0.45μmの狭いトラックピッチでグ
ループが設けられたディスク基板1を用い、スパッタリ
ングにより以下の各層を成膜することにより作製した。
すなわち、ディスク基板1上に、厚さ100nmのCd
Te微粒子分散膜からなる超解像膜2、厚さ120nm
のZnS−SiO2 からなる第1干渉膜3、厚さ20n
mのGeSbTeからなる記録膜4、厚さ30nmのZ
nS−SiO2 からなる第2干渉膜5、厚さ100nm
のAl合金からなる反射膜6を形成した。この光ディス
クの各層の膜厚は、410nmの波長で記録、消去で
き、410nmおよび650nmの2波長で再生できる
ように最適化されている。なお、比較のために、超解像
膜を設けていない以外は図1と同様な構造を有する光デ
ィスクを作製した。
し、ディスクを回転させて線速6m/sに設定し、基板
側から波長410nmの記録ビームをNA0.6の対物
レンズで集光して照射した。波長410nmのレーザー
ビームは、波長820nmの高出力半導体レーザーの光
をSHG結晶を通過させて得た。そして、ビットピッチ
が0.2、0.3、0.4、0.5、0.6μm/bi
tのマーク列を、別々のトラックにそれぞれ単一周波数
で記録した。
び650nmの再生ビームで再生したときのCNRを示
す。実施例1の超解像膜を有する光ディスクでは、波長
650nmでの再生でも波長410nmでの再生でも同
程度のCNRが得られた。しかし、比較例のように超解
像膜のない光ディスクでは、波長650nmで再生した
場合、ビットピッチが0.2、0.3μm/bitの記
録マーク列の再生において符号間干渉のためにCNRが
低下した。

層構造を用いた以外は実施例1と全く同様の光ディスク
を用いた。ZnSeの禁制帯幅Egは2.7eVであ
り、波長460nmの光のエネルギーに相当する。Cd
Seの禁制帯幅Egは1.8eVであり、波長690n
mの光のエネルギーに相当する。
せた微粒子分散膜およびSiO2 にCdSe微粒子を分
散させた微粒子分散膜の特性を個別に説明する。ZnS
e微粒子分散膜またはCdSe微粒子分散膜は、マグネ
トロンスパッタ装置にガラス基板、SiO2 ターゲッ
ト、ZnSeターゲットまたはCdSeターゲットを装
着し、2元同時スパッタ時にSiO2 ターゲット、Zn
SeターゲットまたはCdSeターゲットに投入するR
F電力比を変えて、膜中のZnSe微粒子またはCdS
e微粒子の粒径、体積含有率を変化させて成膜した。
vol%、50vol%、100vol%と変化させた
粒径7nmの微粒子分散膜を50nmの厚さに成膜し、
透過率の波長依存性を調べた。ただし、体積含有率10
0vol%はZnSe連続膜を意味する。ZnSeの体
積含有率100vol%の膜は禁制帯幅Eg(約2.7
eV)に相当する波長(約460nm)で透過率が急激
に変化する。ZnSe微粒子の体積含有率が20vol
%および50vol%の膜は440nm付近の波長で透
過率が急激に変化する。これは、微粒子化により禁制帯
幅Egが大きくなったためである。また、440nmよ
りも短い波長領域での透過率はZnSeの体積含有率が
小さい20vol%の膜の方が、50vol%の膜より
も高くなっている。

含有率を20vol%、50vol%、100vol%
と変化させた粒径10nmの微粒子分散膜を50nmに
厚さに成膜し、透過率の波長依存性を調べた。CdSe
の体積含有率が100vol%の膜は禁制帯幅Eg(約
1.8eV)に相当する波長(約690nm)で透過率
が急激に変化する。また、CdSe微粒子の体積含有率
が20vol%、50vol%の膜は650nm付近の
波長で透過率が急激に変化する。これは、微粒子化によ
り禁制帯幅Egが大きくなったためである。また、65
0nmよりも短い波長領域での透過率はCdSeの体積
含有率が小さい20vol%の膜の方が、50vol%
の膜よりも高くなっている。
vol%とし、粒径を7nm、10nm、15nmと変
化させた膜を50nmの厚さに成膜し、同様に透過率の
波長依存性を調べた。その結果、7nm、10nm、1
5nmの順で透過率が急激に変化する波長が620n
m、650nm、670nmと長波長側にシフトした。
これは、粒径が小さいほどサイズ効果により禁制帯幅E
gが大きくなるためである。
1中に粒径3nmのZnSe微粒子23を体積含有率2
0%で分散させた厚さ50nmのZnSe微粒子分散膜
2aと、SiO2 母材21中に粒径10nmのCdSe
微粒子24を体積含有率20%で分散させた厚さ50n
mのCdSe微粒子分散膜2bとの2層構造を有する超
解像膜2を用いて図1と同様な構造の光ディスクを作製
した。この光ディスクは、410nm、650nmの2
種類の波長で超解像再生動作が可能となっている。ま
た、この光ディスクは410nm、650nmの2波長
で記録、消去できるように層構成が最適化されている。
なお、この場合も、比較例として超解像膜を設けていな
い以外は図1と同様な構造を有する光ディスクを用いて
いる。

のマーク列を、別々のトラックにそれぞれ単一周波数で
記録した。図9に、光ディスクを410nmおよび65
0nmの再生ビームで再生したときのCNRを示す。実
施例2の超解像膜を有する光ディスクでは、波長650
nmでの再生でも波長410nmでの再生でも同程度の
CNRが得られた。しかし、比較例のように超解像膜の
ない光ディスクでは、波長650nmで再生した場合に
はビットピッチが0.3μm/bit以下の記録マーク
列の再生において、符号間干渉のためにCNRが低下し
た。また、実施例1の超解像膜がある光ディスクでは、
410nmで超解像再生動作ができないため、ビットピ
ッチが0.1μm/bitの記録マーク列の再生におい
てCNRが低下した。
SeおよびAlSbの微粒子を分散させた微粒子分散膜
を使用した以外は実施例1と全く同様の光ディスクを用
いた。
せた微粒子分散膜の特性を説明する。AlSb微粒子分
散膜はマグネトロンスパッタ装置にガラス基板、SiO
2 ターゲット、AlSbターゲットを装着し、2元同時
スパッタ時にSiO2 ターゲット、AlSbターゲット
に投入するRF電力比を変えて、膜中のAlSb微粒子
の粒径、体積含有率を変化させて成膜した。
を30vol%、50vol%、100vol%と変化
させた粒径7nmの微粒子分散膜を50nmの厚さに成
膜し、透過率の波長依存性を調べた。AlSbの体積含
有率100vol%の膜は禁制帯幅Eg(約1.5e
V)に相当する波長(約825nm)で透過率が急激に
変化する。また、AlSb微粒子の体積含有率が30v
ol%、50vol%の膜は730nm付近の波長で透
過率が急激に変化する。これは、微粒子化により禁制帯
幅Egが大きくなったためである。また、730nmよ
りも短い波長領域での透過率はAlSbの体積含有率が
小さい30vol%の膜の方が、50vol%の膜より
も高くなっている。

Se微粒子23および粒径5nm、体積含有率30%の
AlSb微粒子25が分散した微粒子分散膜からなる超
解像膜2を用いて図1と同様な構造の光ディスクを作製
した。

ット、AlSbターゲットを装着し、3元同時スパッタ
リング時に各ターゲットに投入するRF電力比、基板バ
イアスを変えて、各微粒子の体積含有率および粒径を調
整した。なお、3元同時スパッタリングを行う代わり
に、ZnSe−SiO2 混合ターゲット、AlSb−S
iO2 混合ターゲットを用いてもよい。
率がほぼ100%から65%程度に低下し、650nm
から410nm付近までは一定の透過率を維持し、41
0nm付近で65%から30%程度まで透過率が低下す
る。つまり、ZnSe微粒子分散膜とAlSb微粒子分
散膜の透過率の波長依存性を合わせたような透過率の波
長依存性を示す。この光ディスクは410nm、650
nmの2波長で記録、再生、消去できるように層構成が
調整されている。

再生ビームで再生したところ、実施例2と同様の結果が
得られた。

て吸収を示す膜を組み合わせて2層以上の構成にしても
よいし、実施例3のように異なる波長で吸収を示すよう
な複数の材料を用いて1層構造にしてもよい。
る波長で動作させるため、2種類の半導体を分散させて
2つの異なる波長で吸収を示すような半導体微粒子分散
膜を用いた。2つの異なる波長で動作させるためには、
1種類の材料でも2つの波長で吸収を示すような材料を
用いてもよい。つまり、超解像再生膜を動作させたい2
つの波長付近で吸収を示すような無機材料または有機材
料であれば原理的に使用可能である。有機材料では、た
とえば銅フタロシアニンのように中心波長350nmの
吸収領域および600〜700nmの吸収波長を利用し
て異なる波長での超解像再生が可能である。無機材料で
は、たとえば半導体において異なるバンド間遷移を利用
することにより異なる波長での超解像動作が可能にな
る。バンド間遷移だけでなく、励起子準位への遷移など
を組み合わせてもよい。また、着色剤を含んだガラス
も、異なる波長で吸収を示す。たとえば、クロム(C
r)をガラス中にドープした場合、400〜500n
m、600〜700nmで吸収を示す。この2つの領域
を利用して、2つの異なる波長での超解像再生動作が可
能になる。

したが、本発明は特に動作波長には限定されない。超解
像膜として半導体微粒子分散膜を用いる場合には、動作
波長に応じて超解像膜の禁制帯幅を適切に調整すること
ができる。
波長の光に動作波長がある超解像膜を利用することによ
り、短波長の光で狭ピッチに記録したマークを再生する
ことができる。したがって、複数の波長で動作する光デ
ィスクを提供でき、長波長の記録再生装置を使用しても
短波長で光ディスクに記録したマークを再生することが
できる。

Claims (3)
- 【請求項1】 2つ以上の異なる波長で動作する光ディ
スクであって、短波長対応のトラックピッチでトラック
が形成されたディスク基板と、光照射により透過率が変
化する超解像膜と、記録層とを有し、前記超解像膜が長
波長の光照射により透過率が変化することを特徴とする
光ディスク。 - 【請求項2】 2つ以上の異なる波長で動作する光ディ
スクであって、短波長対応のトラックピッチでトラック
が形成されたディスク基板と、光照射により透過率が変
化する超解像膜と、記録層とを有し、前記超解像膜が長
波長の光照射および短波長の光照射によりそれぞれ透過
率が変化することを特徴とする光ディスク。 - 【請求項3】 2つ以上の異なる波長で動作する光ディ
スクであって、短波長対応のトラックピッチでトラック
が形成されたディスク基板と、光照射により透過率が変
化する超解像膜と、記録層とを有し、前記超解像膜が長
波長の光照射により透過率が変化する超解像膜と短波長
の光照射により透過率が変化する超解像膜との積層構造
を有することを特徴とする光ディスク。
