Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1. 老化したシリカ光ファイバを別の光ファイバに接続する方法において、 シリカファイバの被覆面を露出するためにファイバの端部において該ファイバ の一片にわたって老化したファイバのポリマからなる保護スリーブが除去され、 被覆が露出された、老化ファイバの一片の少なくとも一部の面がシリカファイ バの被覆材の溶融温度近辺の高い温度まで加熱され、 前記ファイバが前記一片の内側のある個所で切断され端面を作り、 この端面が別の光ファイバの端面に隣接して位置され、 これらの断面が光学的に相互に結合されることを特徴とする老化した光ファイ バを別の光ファイバに接続する方法。 2. 温度が、加熱されたシリカファイバが滑らかで、あるいは輝いた面を有 するようになる高い値に選定されることを特徴とする請求の範囲第1項に記載の 方法。 3. 温度が、シリカファイバの表面が加熱中に、ある程度溶融するような高 い値に選定されることを特徴とする請求の範囲第1項に記載の方法。 4. 老化したシリカ光ファイバを別の光ファイバに接続する装置において、 ファイバの一片の両側でファイバを緊締して前記ファイバ片を基本的に真直な状 態に保つ運動可能な保持手段と、 ファイバ片の長手方向から視て、前記ファイバ片の短い領域、特にファイバの 直径の精々数倍に相当する長さの領域の少なくとも表面をシリカファイバ材の溶 融温度近傍の高い温度まで加熱する加熱手段と、 前記ファイバ片の長手方向に対して平行の方向に保持手段を運動させる作動手 段と、 前記ファイバ片内のある個所でファイバを切断し、ファイバの熱処理した端部 分とその端面とを提供する切断手段と、 前記ファイバ片の熱処理した端面を別の光ファイバの端面に接続する取付け手 段とを含むことを特徴とする老化した光ファイバを別の光ファイバに接続する装 置。 5. 前記加熱手段がレーザと、前記レーザからの光線ビームを集光するレン ズ系とからなることを特徴とする請求の範囲第4項に記載の装置。 6. 前記加熱手段が、接続手段に含まれている溶着電極からなることを特徴 とする請求の範囲第4項に記載の装置。
