Description
空中表示装置は、例えば液晶ディスプレイの表示面から出射される光を、2面コーナーリフレクタ等の空中結像素子(ミラーデバイス)を用いて空間中に結像させるものである。
次に、意図しない位置で結像するゴーストについて説明する。ゴーストとは、空中像30の近傍に現れる二重画像である。図7は、空中表示装置によって表示されるゴースト31を示す模式図である。
次に、不要光について説明する。不要光とは、実像を結像するのに寄与しない光成分である。図12は、空中表示装置の不要光32を示す模式図である。
次に、前述した原理を用いた実施形態の空中表示装置について説明する。
図17及び図18を用いて、実施形態の空中表示装置1の構成について説明する。図17は、実施形態の空中表示装置1の構成を示すブロック図である。図18は、空中表示装置1の光学的な構成を示す斜視図である。図19は、前記光学的な構成を示す側面図である。
次に、図22を用いて、空中表示装置1における表示ユニット20について説明する。図22は、表示ユニット20の構成を示す斜視図である。表示ユニット20は、前述したように、光源部21及び表示素子22を備える。
表示ユニット40は、自発光型かつ透過型の表示素子から構成される。表示ユニット40は、自ら発光する光を用いて、画像あるいは動画等を表示すると共に、ミラーデバイス10からの表示光を透過する。表示ユニット40には、様々な透過型表示素子、例えば、透明有機エレクトロルミネセンス(EL)表示素子、あるいは透明無機EL表示素子、サイドライト型のバックライトを備えた透過型液晶表示素子を用いることができる。ここでは、自発光型かつ透過型の表示素子の一例として、透明有機EL表示素子について説明する。
次に、図19及び図26を用いて、実施形態の空中表示装置の表示動作について説明する。図19は、前述したように、空中表示装置1の光学的な構成を示す図である。図26は、車載用として用いられる空中表示装置1に表示される表示例を示す図である。
実施形態の効果について詳述する前に、以下に比較例の空中表示装置について説明する。図27は、比較例の空中表示装置の光学的な構成を示す模式図である。比較例では、表示ユニット20から出射される光の光路上に、ハーフミラー100が斜めに配置される。さらに、ハーフミラー100の後方(あるいは背面方向)には表示ユニット200が配置される。表示ユニット20から出射された光は、ハーフミラー100にて観察者90の方向に反射される。観察者90は、ハーフミラー100にて反射された光により、ハーフミラー100の後方に空中像30を視認する。さらに、空中像30の後方に配置された表示ユニット200には画像が表示される。これにより、観察者90は、表示ユニット200の画像と空中像30とが重なった表示を視認することができる。

Claims (7)
- 第1画像を表示する表示面を有し、前記表示面から表示光を出射する第1表示素子と、
前記第1表示素子の前記表示面に対して斜めに配置され、前記第1表示素子から出射された前記表示光を反射し、前記第1表示素子と面対称な位置に空中像を結像するミラーデバイスと、
前記ミラーデバイスと前記空中像との間に前記ミラーデバイスとは別体で、前記ミラーデバイスの主面に対して前記第1表示素子の前記表示面と前記ミラーデバイスの主面とのなす角度と同じ角度で配置され、前記ミラーデバイスで反射された前記表示光を透過すると共に、第2画像を表示する第2表示素子と、
を具備し、
前記空中像は、前記ミラーデバイスよりも観察者の側で、前記観察者から見て前記第2画像の手前に結像される
空中表示装置。 - 前記ミラーデバイスは、直角に配置された2つの反射面をそれぞれが含む複数の光学要素を有する請求項1に記載の空中表示装置。
- 前記複数の光学要素の各々は、立方体または直方体からなる請求項2に記載の空中表示装置。
- 前記ミラーデバイスの主面と、前記第1表示素子の前記表示面とがなす角度は、30度以上60度以下である請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の空中表示装置。
- 前記ミラーデバイスの主面と、前記第1表示素子の前記表示面とがなす角度は、45度である請求項4に記載の空中表示装置。
- 前記第2表示素子は、前記ミラーデバイスにより反射された前記表示光を透過する透過型の表示素子である請求項1に記載の空中表示装置。
- 前記第2表示素子は、透明EL表示素子である請求項6に記載の空中表示装置。
