Description
a)メタクリル酸およびアクリル酸と1〜3個の炭素原子を有する直鎖または分岐アルコールとのエステルからなる群から選択される第1のモノエチレン性不飽和モノマーおよび5モル%以下の付加開裂連鎖移動剤を重合した形態で含むマクロモノマー;および
b)少なくとも95wt%(質量%)のアクリル酸を重合した形態で含む、マクロモノマー上の少なくとも1個の側鎖
を含むグラフトコポリマーが提供される。
a)メタクリル酸およびアクリル酸と1〜3個の炭素原子を有する直鎖または分岐アルコールとのエステルからなる群から選択される第1のモノエチレン性不飽和モノマーを、形成されるポリマーが5モル%より多くの付加開裂連鎖移動剤を含有しないような量の付加開裂連鎖移動剤の存在下、50℃〜100℃の範囲の温度の水性混合物中で重合させて、第1の水性エマルション中のマクロモノマーを形成すること;および
b)第1の水性エマルション中のマクロモノマーを、少なくとも95wt%のアクリル酸を含む少なくとも1個の側鎖をマクロモノマー上に有するグラフトコポリマーを第2の水性エマルション中に形成する量のアクリル酸と共に重合させること
を含む、グラフトコポリマーを作製する方法が提供される。
例1
ポリ(メタクリル酸メチル)マクロモノマー第1水性エマルションの調製:
IKA Eurostar 60デジタルオーバーヘッドスターラーを用いて500rpmの撹拌スピードで約1グラム(gm)のラウリル硫酸ナトリウムを64gmの水に加えた。これに、15gm(0.15モル)のメタクリル酸メチルおよび0.72gm(0.0030モル)のアルファメチルスチレン二量体(AMSD)を滴下して加えた。水性混合物の温度を60℃に上げた。0.327gm(0.002モル)の2,2’−アゾビスイソブチロニトリルを水性混合物に加え、重合反応を7時間続けさせてマクロモノマー第1水性エマルションを形成した。
ポリ(メタクリル酸メチル−g−アクリル酸)グラフトコポリマーの調製:
12.36gmのポリ(メタクリル酸メチル)(0.124モル)を含有する例1の約66.81gmの第1の水性エマルションをとり、これに1gmのラウリル硫酸ナトリウムを加えた。このエマルションに、IKA Eurostar 60デジタルオーバーヘッドスターラーを用いて500rpmで連続的に撹拌しながら4.45gm(0.0618モル)の中和したアクリル酸(水酸化ナトリウムで中和)を滴下して加えた。反応混合物の温度を60℃に維持した。0.59gm(0.0036モル)の2,2’−アゾビスイソブチロニトリルを反応混合物に加え、反応を7時間続けてグラフトコポリマーを含有する第2の水性エマルションを形成した。
塗料サンプルの調製および性質の試験:
0.5%、1%および2%の第2の水性エマルションを工業用外装用水系塗料サンプル(Kansai Nerolac Paints LimitedのNerolac Excel Total)中で20分間200rpmで撹拌し続けながら混合することによって塗料サンプルを調製してサンプル1、サンプル2およびサンプル3を得た。
塵拾い上げ抵抗性試験:
1インチ×1インチの工業用紙製パネルを使用した。工業用のBirdフィルムアプリケーターを用いて工業用の紙製パネルに塗料を塗った。3つの紙製パネルの隅にKansai Nerolac Paints LimitedのNerolac Excel Totalを塗布してブランクを形成した。紙製パネルの反対側の隅に例3の塗料サンプル1〜3をBirdフィルムアプリケーターで塗布してそれぞれのサンプルパネル1〜3を形成した。パネル上の塗膜の厚さは約100マイクロメートルであった。パネルを7日間25℃の室温で放置して乾燥した。
加速安定性試験:
約2%の第2の水性エマルションを工業用の塗料サンプル(Nerolac Excel Total)と混合した。粘度を時間と共に観察することによってサンプルの安定性を試験した。第2の水性エマルションの添加した際の初期粘度は104KUであった。サンプルを55℃に30日間保ち、この期間の終了時に塗料製剤の粘度を測定したところ103KUであることが判明した。この研究によって、添加剤が塗料および塗装製剤中で極めて安定であり、経時的に粘度の目立った変化は認められないことが確かめられる。また、沈殿も凝集もなく、塗料は流動可能な形態であった。
Claims (14)
- a)メタクリル酸またはアクリル酸と、1〜3個の炭素原子を有する直鎖または分岐アルコールとのエステルからなる群から選択される少なくとも95質量%の第1のモノエチレン性不飽和モノマーおよび5モルパーセント以下の付加開裂連鎖移動剤を重合した形態で含むマクロモノマー;および
b)少なくとも95質量%のアクリル酸を重合した形態で含む、マクロモノマー上の少なくとも1個の側鎖
を含むグラフトコポリマー。 - グラフトコポリマーの数平均分子量が、移動相としてクロロホルムを使用するゲル浸透クロマトグラフィーで測定して5,000グラム/モル〜35,000グラム/モルの範囲である、請求項1に記載のグラフトコポリマー。
- マクロモノマーa)を構成するモノマーのモル数と側鎖b)を構成するモノマーのモル数とのモル比が70:30〜30:70の範囲である、請求項1または2に記載のグラフトコポリマー。
- グラフトコポリマーが10℃/分の速度で加熱する示差走査熱量測定で測定して第1のガラス転移温度(Tg)および第2のTgを有し、第1のTgが70℃〜105℃の範囲であり、第2のTgが90℃〜110℃の範囲である、請求項1〜3のいずれか一つに記載のグラフトコポリマー。
- 第1のモノエチレン性不飽和モノマーがメタクリル酸メチルである、請求項1〜4のいずれか一つに記載のグラフトコポリマー。
- メタクリル酸メチルとアクリル酸とのモル比が60:40〜40:60である、請求項5に記載のグラフトコポリマー。
- 付加開裂連鎖移動剤がアルファ−メチルスチレン、フェニル−置換アルファ−メチルスチレン、アルファ−置換アクリル酸メチル、アルファ−置換ベンジルオキシスチレン、塩化アリル、アリルエーテルおよび過酸化アリルの二量体、三量体もしくは四量体からなる群から選択される、請求項1〜6のいずれか一つに記載のグラフトコポリマー。
