b.前記基板上の、炭化物、窒化物、酸化物及び炭素からなる組から選択される材料を含むコーティングであって、前記材料が連続又は不連続のいずれか一方であり、さらに前記コーティングには、窒化チタン、窒化ハフニウム、窒化ジルコニア、炭化チタン、炭化ハフニウム、炭窒化チタン及び炭窒化ハフニウムからなる組から選択される材料が浸透し、さらに前記コーティングが、少なくとも1つの切れ刃を備え、前記少なくとも1つの切れ刃が、非周期的な複数の鋸歯状刃を備え、前記非周期的な複数の鋸歯状刃が、複数の突起及び複数の谷を備え、前記非周期的な複数の鋸歯状刃の少なくとも1つのサブセットが、少なくとも第1の線寸法において非周期的で、さらに前記複数の鋸歯状刃の前記サブセットが少なくとも1つの非周期的規模で非周期的である、コーティングと

a.静電噴霧コーティング(ESC)、静電噴霧堆積(ESD)、超音波噴霧堆積(USD)並びにESC、ESD及びUSD技法のうち少なくとも2つのハイブリッドからなる組から選択される技法を用いることで、基板に第1の材料を堆積させて前記基板上にコーティングを生成する方法ステップであって、前記基板が、炭化物、窒化物、炭窒化物、多結晶質立方晶窒化ホウ素(PCBN)、PCBN先端ろう付材料、サーメット及び鋼からなる組から選択される材料を含み、前記コーティングが連続又は不連続のいずれか一方で、前記第1の材料が、炭化物、酸化物、窒化物及び炭素からなる組から選択される材料を含む方法ステップと、
b.化学気相浸透(CVI)技法を用いて、窒化チタン、窒化ハフニウム、窒化ジルコニア、炭化チタン、炭化ハフニウム、炭窒化チタン及び炭窒化ハフニウムからなる群から選択される第2の材料を前記基板上の前記コーティングに浸透させる方法ステップと、
c.レーザ放射、赤外線(IR)放射又はマイクロ波焼結からなる組から選択される堆積後プロセスを適用する方法ステップとを含む、切削工具を製造するための方法において、
切れ刃を備えるコーティングが施された基板が製造され、前記切れ刃が複数の非周期的鋸歯状刃を備え、前記複数の非周期的鋸歯状刃が複数の突起と複数の谷とを備える上記方法。

前記複数の非周期的鋸歯状刃の少なくとも1つのサブセットが、5ミクロンを超えない少なくとも1つの線寸法を備える、[12]に記載の方法。

前記複数の非周期的鋸歯状刃の前記サブセットが、1〜3ミクロンの範囲の少なくとも1つの線寸法を備える、[13]に記載の方法。

Claims (18)
- a.炭化物、窒化物、炭窒化物、多結晶質立方晶窒化ホウ素(PCBN)、PCBN先端ろう付材料、サーメット及び鋼からなる組から選択される材料を含む基板と、
b.前記基板上の、炭化物、窒化物、酸化物及び炭素からなる組から選択される材料を含むコーティングであって、前記材料が連続又は不連続のいずれか一方であり、さらに前記コーティングには、窒化チタン、窒化ハフニウム、窒化ジルコニア、炭化チタン、炭化ハフニウム、炭窒化チタン及び炭窒化ハフニウムからなる組から選択される材料が浸透し、さらに前記コーティングが、少なくとも1つの切れ刃を備え、前記少なくとも1つの切れ刃が、複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃を備え、前記複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃が、複数の突起及び複数の谷を備え、前記複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃の少なくとも1つのサブセットが、少なくとも第1の線寸法について周期的パターンを有さない、コーティングと
を備える切削工具。 - 前記第1の線寸法が5ミクロンを超えない、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 前記第1の線寸法が1〜3ミクロンの範囲にある、請求項2に記載の工具。
- 前記少なくとも1つのサブセットが、前記第1の線寸法とは異なる第2の線寸法において周期的パターンを有する、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 前記少なくとも1つの切れ刃が、第1の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃と、第2の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃とを備え、前記第1の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃及び前記第2の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃がそれぞれ異なる線寸法について周期的パターンを有さない、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 前記少なくとも1つの切れ刃が、第1の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃と、第2の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃とを備え、前記第1の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃が第1の線寸法について周期的パターンを有し、前記第2の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃が第2の線寸法について周期的パターンを有する、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 前記第1及び第2の少なくとも一方の複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃がチップブレーカである、請求項6に記載の工具。
- 前記コーティングが窒化ホウ素を含む、請求項1に記載の工具。
- 前記コーティングが立方晶窒化ホウ素を含む、請求項8に記載の工具。
- 前記切れ刃が複数のマイクロ流体チャネルを備える、請求項1に記載の工具。

c.レーザ放射、赤外線(IR)放射又はマイクロ波焼結からなる組から選択される堆積後プロセスを適用する方法ステップとを含む、切削工具を製造するための方法において、
切れ刃を備えるコーティングが施された基板が製造され、前記切れ刃が複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃を備え、前記複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃が複数の突起と複数の谷とを備える上記方法。 - 前記複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃の少なくとも1つのサブセットが、5ミクロンを超えない少なくとも1つの線寸法について周期的パターンを有さない、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記複数のランダムに分布する鋸歯状刃の前記サブセットが、1〜3ミクロンの範囲の少なくとも1つの線寸法について周期的パターンを有さない、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記コーティングが窒化ホウ素を含む、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記コーティングが立方晶窒化ホウ素を含む、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記浸透ステップが、850℃〜1050℃の範囲の温度で行われる、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 前記浸透ステップが、600〜2400分の継続時間で行われる、請求項16に記載の方法。
- 前記切れ刃が複数のマイクロ流体チャネルを備える、請求項11に記載の方法。
