基材フィルムまたは偏光機能素材層(実施例及び比較例の場合PVA系樹脂フィルム)の引張特性は、次の方式で評価した。試片は、実施例または比較例の基材フィルムまたは偏光機能素材層を、横の長さが15mmであり、縦の長さが90mmになるように裁断して製造した。次に、縦方向の上端と下端を10mmずつをテーピング(taping)して囲んだ後、測定器機(XP plus、TA社製)にテーピングされた部分を固定した。その後、常温で300mm/minの引張速度で縦方向に試片を引張しながら、試片が切断される時までの距離(distance)によって測定された荷重(force)のグラフ(X軸:distance、Y軸:force)を図示し、試片の広さ及び厚さを適用して前記グラフを延伸率(elongation)と引張強度(tensile strength)のグラフ(X軸:elongation、Y軸:tensile strength)で示した後、それから各引張特性を評価した。引張曲線から引張弾性率、引張弾性係数、延伸率などの引張特性を評価する方式は公知されている。
復元率は、次の方式で評価した。まず、実施例または比較例の基材フィルムを、横の長さが50mmであり、縦の長さが100mmになるように裁断する。その後、前記基材フィルムの一面に基材フィルムと同一な横と縦の長さを各々有し、厚さが30μmであるポリビニルアルコールフィルムを付着して積層体を製造する。前記ポリビニルアルコールフィルムと基材フィルムの付着は、通常的な水系ポリビニルアルコール系接着剤を使用して実行する。その後、積層体を水(温度:60℃)に浸漬し、これを縦方向に5倍延伸する。その後、水から取り出して前記ポリビニルアルコールフィルムを剥離し、常温で1時間の間維持した後、前記基材フィルムの縦方向の長さ(T)を測定する。その後、測定された長さ(T)を数式「100×(T−A)/A」に代入して復元率を求める。前記数式でAは、前記基材フィルムの延伸前の縦の長さである。
溶融指数は、ASTM D1238によって、荷重500g、温度215℃で2.095mm直径のオリフィスを10分間通過する試料の重さで測定した(単位:g/10min)。
硬度は、厚さが2mmの試片を用いて常温でショア(shore)D硬度計(日本ASKER)を使用して測定した。
アジピン酸(adipic acid)と1,4−ブタンジオール(1,4−butane diol)の公知のエステル化反応により製造された重量平均分子量(Mw)が約2,000程度であるポリエステルポリオール、メチレンジフェニルジイソシアネート(MDI、Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate)及び1,4−ブタンジオール(鎖延長剤)を含む混合物を使用して、公知の方式でTPUフィルムを製造した。具体的には、反応器に前記ポリエステル系ポリオール及びメチレンジフェニルジイソシアネートを1:1.46の重量の割合(ポリエステル系ポリオール:MDI)で添加し、80℃で窒素を投入しながら、200rpmの速度で撹拌しながら反応させて、イソシアネート末端フリーポリマーを製造した。その後、前記フリーポリマー100重量部に対して、14重量部の鎖延長剤(1,4−ブタンジオール)を追加で投入し、80℃で窒素を投入しながら、200rpmの速度で撹拌しながら反応器内のイソシアネート(NCO)の含量が0に到逹するまで反応させてTPUを合成した。合成されたTPUをキャスティングして約50μm厚さのTPUフィルムを製造した。
鎖延長剤として、1,4−ブタンジオール(BD)及びネオペンタングリコール(NPG)を1:0.5(BD:NPG)の重量の割合で混合したものを使用したこと以外は、製造例1と同一に約50μm厚さのTPUフィルムを製造した。

製造例1で製造されたTPUフィルム(A)の一面に、前記表1に示したPVA系樹脂フィルムを水系PVA系接着剤で積層して積層体を製造した。その後、積層体を温度が約30℃であるヨウ素とヨウ化カリウムを含んだ染色液(溶媒:水)に適正時間浸漬させて、PVA系樹脂フィルムにヨウ素を吸着させた。染色液内のヨウ素含有量は、水100重量部に対して、約0.1重量部であった。ヨウ化カリウムの含有量は、水100重量部に対して、約0.7重量部であった。その後、積層体を温度が約60℃のホウ酸及びヨウ化カリウムを含んだホウ酸水溶液中に浸漬させて、最終PVA系樹脂フィルムの厚さが、約5.8μmになるまで延伸させた(延伸倍率:約5.6倍)。延伸された積層体からPVA系樹脂フィルムを剥離して測定した結果、透過率が約40%以上であり、偏光度が99%以上の偏光膜が製造されたことを確認した。
製造例2で製造されたTPUフィルム(B)を使用したこと以外は、実施例1と同一に偏光膜を製造した。製造された偏光膜の透過率は、約40%以上であり、偏光度は、約99%以上であった。
製造例3で製造されたTPUフィルム(C)を使用したこと以外は、実施例1と同一に偏光膜を製造した。製造された偏光膜の透過率は、約40%以上であり、偏光度は、約99%以上であった。
表1に示した非晶性PETフィルムをTPUフィルムの代わりに使用したこと以外は、実施例1と同一に偏光膜を製造した。しかし、この場合、延伸倍率が増加しながらPVA系樹脂フィルムが破断されるかカール(curl)がひどく発生して適切な性能の偏光膜の製造が不可能であった。

Claims (13)
- 基材フィルムと、
前記基材フィルムの一面または両面に積層されている偏光機能素材層と、を含み、
前記基材フィルムの延伸率と前記偏光機能素材層の延伸率の差の絶対値が、20%〜160%の範囲内であり、
基材フィルムは、重量平均分子量が500〜5,000の範囲内にあるポリオール、多価イソシアネート化合物及び鎖延長剤を含む混合物の反応物である熱可塑性ポリウレタンを含み、
前記混合物の前記多価イソシアネート化合物及び前記鎖延長剤の合計重量は、前記ポリオール100重量部に対して、1〜90重量部の範囲内にあり、
前記混合物は、前記ポリオール100重量部に対して、1〜50重量部の前記多価イソシアネート化合物を含み、
前記混合物は、前記ポリオール100重量部に対して、0.1〜30重量部の前記鎖延長剤を含み、
偏光機能素材層は、ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂を含むフィルムまたはコーティング層であり、
前記延伸率は、横の長さが15mmであり、縦の長さが90mmになるように裁断された前記基材フィルムを、縦方向の上端と下端の10mmずつをテーピング(taping)し、引張試験機に前記テーピングされた部分を固定し、常温で300mm/minの引張速度で縦方向に試片が切断される時まで引張して測定した値である、
ことを特徴とする積層体。 - 基材フィルムの引張曲線の積分値と前記偏光機能素材層の引張曲線の積分値の差の絶対値が、2,500Nmm〜6,500Nmmの範囲内であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の積層体。
- 基材フィルムの弾性限度と偏光機能素材層の弾性限度の差の絶対値が、660MPa以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の積層体。
- 基材フィルムの引張強度と偏光機能素材層の引張強度の差の絶対値が、0〜30MPaの範囲内であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の積層体。
- 基材フィルムの降伏点と偏光機能素材層の降伏点の差の絶対値が、5〜35MPa以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の積層体。
- 基材フィルムの復元率が、30%以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の積層体。
- 偏光機能素材層の厚さは、15μm〜100μmの範囲内であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の積層体。
- 請求項1に記載の積層体を延伸する工程を含むことを特徴とする偏光膜の製造方法。
- 延伸は、2倍〜15倍の範囲内の延伸倍率で実行されることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の偏光膜の製造方法。
- 延伸は、20℃〜80℃の範囲内の温度の水溶液内で実行されることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の偏光膜の製造方法。
- 水溶液は、ホウ酸水溶液であることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の偏光膜の製造方法。
- 延伸を実行する前に、偏光機能素材層に二色性物質を吸着させる工程を追加で実行することを特徴とする請求項8に記載の偏光膜の製造方法。
- 延伸後の偏光機能素材層の厚さが10μm以下であることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の偏光膜の製造方法。
