Description
本発明は、超高分子量及び予想外の物性を有するポリ弗化ビニリデン重合体に関するものである。この超高分子量重合体は、透明であり、融点が低く、結晶化度が低下し、耐衝撃性に優れ、しかも降伏点伸びが大きい。この超高分子量ポリ弗化ビニリデンは、最終用途及び最終製品において、そのまま用いたり、又は他の重合体とブレンドすることができる。
ポリ弗化ビニリデン(PVDF)重合体は、押出、射出成形、紡糸、押出吹込成形及びインフレーションフィルム法といった多くの異なる方法によって重合体構造物に成形される溶融加工可能な樹脂である。また、これらの重合体は、それらの低い表面エネルギーと相挙動のため、重合体加工助剤としても使用されている。PVDFの分子量が増加するとその溶融強度も増加することが知られているが、引落比のような他の特性は減少する場合が多い。架橋されたPVDFは、その溶融強度を増加させる可能性があるが、ただし、これらのPVDFは加工が容易ではなく、かつ、多くの場合かなりの量のゲルを含有するという理由で限界がある。
本発明は、10%のn−メチルピロリドン(NMP)中20℃で35Pa.sを超える溶液粘度を有する超高分子量ポリ弗化ビニリデンに関する。当該超高分子量ポリ弗化ビニリデンは、非常に大きい降伏点伸び、優れた透明性、高いゲル強度及び優れた衝撃強度を含め、ユニークな特性を有する。
ここで使用するときに、用語「弗化ビニリデン重合体」は、その意味に、通常は固体の高分子量単独重合体及び高分子量共重合体の両方を含む。このような共重合体としては、テトラフルオルエチレン、トリフルオルエチレン、クロルトリフルオルエチレン、ヘキサフルオルプロペン、弗化ビニル、ペンタフルオルプロペン、ペルフルオルメチルビニルエーテル、ペルフルオルプロピルビニルエーテル及び弗化ビニリデンと容易に共重合するであろう任意の他の単量体よりなる群から選択される少なくとも1種の共単量体と共重合した少なくとも50モルパーセントの弗化ビニリデンを含有するものが挙げられる。特に好ましいものは、少なくとも約70から99モルパーセントまでの弗化ビニリデンと、それに対応して1〜30パーセントのテトラフルオルエチレンとから構成される共重合体、例えば英国特許第827,308号に開示されたもの;及び約70〜99パーセントの弗化ビニリデンと1〜30パーセントのヘキサフルオルプロペンとから構成される共重合体(例えば米国特許第3,178,399号);及び約70〜99モルパーセントの弗化ビニリデンと1〜30モルパーセントのトリフルオルエチレンとから構成される共重合体である。弗化ビニリデンとヘキサフルオルプロペンとテトラフルオルエチレンとの三元共重合体、例えば米国特許第2,968,649号に開示されたもの、及び弗化ビニリデンとトリフルオルエチレンとテトラフルオルエチレンとの三元共重合体も、ここで具体化した方法によって製造できる弗化ビニリデン共重合体の代表例である。
例1、2
80ガロンのステンレススチール製反応器に、345lbsの脱イオン水、225gのペルフルオルデカン酸アンモニウム、6gのパラフィンワックス及び必要量の酢酸エチル(連鎖移動剤(CTA))を装入した。排気後に、23rpmで撹拌を開始し、そして反応器を加熱した。反応器の温度が90℃の所望の設定点にまで到達した後に、VDFの装入を開始する。続いて、当該反応器に40lbsのVDFを装入することによって反応器の圧力を650psiまで上昇させた。反応器の圧力が安定した後に、当該反応器に3.5lbsのNPP(ジ−N−プロピルペルオキシジカーボネート)エマルジョンを添加して重合を開始させた。この開始剤エマルジョンは、0.2重量%のペルフルオルデカン酸アンモニウムを含有する脱イオン水中1.0重量%NPPであった。このNPPエマルジョンのさらなる添加の割合を調節して、1時間当たりおよそ70ポンドのVDF重合速度を得、そしてこれを維持した。VDFの単独重合を、約190ポンドのVDFが反応素材に導入されるまで続行した。VDFの供給を止め、そして、このバッチを上記反応温度で反応させ、かつ、減少圧力で残留単量体を消費させるように開始剤を供給することによっって完全に反応させた。20分後に撹拌を止め、そして反応器のガス抜きをし、ラテックスを回収した。このラテックスを凝固させ、該ラテックスを脱イオン水で洗浄し、そして乾燥させることによって重合体樹脂を単離した。こうして製造された樹脂は次の特性を有する。
Claims (8)
- (a)10%n−メチルピロリドン(NMP)中20℃及び0.1s-1で35Pa.sを超える溶液粘度を有する超高分子量ポリ弗化ビニリデンと、(b)非弗素化界面活性剤とを含むポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 10%n−メチルピロリドン(NMP)中20℃で45Pa.sを超える溶液粘度を有する、請求項1に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 10%n−メチルピロリドン(NMP)中20℃で50Pa.sを超える溶液粘度を有する請求項2に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 前記ポリ弗化ビニリデンが単独重合体である、請求項1に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 前記ポリ弗化ビニリデンが共重合体である、請求項1に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 前記ポリ弗化ビニリデンが弗化ビニリデンとヘキサフルオルプロペンとの共重合体である、請求項5に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 高配向繊維;高耐衝撃性物品;ポリオレフィン用の重合体加工用添加剤;リチウムイオン電池における電極用の結合剤及び/又は隔離板;ゲル押出繊維;ゲル押出フィルム;膜及び中空繊維;並びに流延膜、フィルム及び中空繊維よりなる群から選択される物品に用いられる、請求項1に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョン。
- 重合反応器に、100〜2000ppmのレベルの連鎖移動剤+有機過酸化物を添加する工程を含む、請求項1に記載のポリ弗化ビニリデンエマルジョンの形成方法であって、該方法は、開始剤の一部及びフッ化ビニリデン(VDF)を最初の装入で添加し、残りを連続的な供給で添加するエマルジョン重合である方法。
