0.42≦z≦0.60、好ましくは0.48≦z≦0.60、より好ましくは0.48≦z≦0.54であり、
0.30≦x+y≦0.55であり、
w、x及びyのいずれも0より大きく、好ましくは0.02≦w≦0.20、0.26≦x≦0.44及び0.02≦y≦0.12、より好ましくは0.02≦w≦0.14である)
を含み、且つ
該正極材料は空間群C2/mの単一相構造を有する。
A)金属塩混合物の溶液を調製するステップ:
硝酸ニッケル(Ni(NO3)2)、硝酸コバルト(Co(NO3)2)及び硝酸マンガン(Mn(NO3)2)を水中で混合して、金属硝酸塩混合物の溶液を調製する。
B)沈殿ステップ:
該金属硝酸塩混合物の溶液をアルカリ性水酸化物溶液に滴下して加えて、沈殿前駆体を形成する。
C)乾燥ステップ:
該沈殿前駆体を乾燥する。好ましくは、該沈殿前駆体を水で5回から6回洗浄し、次にろ過した後、乾燥する。
D)金属酸化物混合物を調製するステップ:
該乾燥前駆体を炭酸リチウム(Li2CO3)と混合して、金属酸化物混合物を形成する。
E)焼成ステップ:
該金属酸化物混合物を800℃から950℃の温度で焼成して、空間群C2/mの単一相構造を有する、本発明の正極材料を得る。
Li(LiwNixCoyMnz)O2
(w+x+y+z=1であり、
0.42≦z≦0.60、好ましくは0.48≦z≦0.60、より好ましくは0.48≦z≦0.54であり、
0.30≦x+y≦0.55であり、
w、x及びyのいずれも0より大きく、好ましくは0.02≦w≦0.20、0.26≦x≦0.44及び0.02≦y≦0.12、より好ましくは0.02≦w≦0.14である)
を含むC2/m構造の正極材料を含有し、
該正極材料は、空間群C2/mの単一相構造を有する。
(例1−1)
硝酸ニッケル(Ni(NO3)2・6H2O、109.268g)、硝酸コバルト(Co(NO3)2・6H2O、25.119g)及び硝酸マンガン(Mn(NO3)2・5H2O、199.058g)を、0.370:0.087:0.543のモル比で水中で混合して、金属硝酸塩混合物の溶液を調製した。該金属硝酸塩混合物溶液を水酸化ナトリウム溶液(2.5M)にゆっくり滴下して加えて、沈殿前駆体を形成した((Ni0.370Co0.087Mn0.543(OH)2)。
以下を除き、例1−1と同一の方法に従って正極材料を作製した。硝酸ニッケル(129.355g)、硝酸コバルト(12.036g)及び硝酸マンガン(190.764g)を、0.438:0.042:0.521のモル比で水中で混合した。こうして形成した前駆体は、Ni0.438Co0.042Mn0.521(OH)2である。精製前駆体(87.117g)と炭酸リチウム(38.655g)を0.96:0.52のモル比で混合した。得られた正極材料はLi(Li0.04Ni0.42Co0.04Mn0.50)O2である。正極材料の配合を表1及び2にまとめる。
以下を除き、例1−1と同一の方法に従って正極材料を作製した。硝酸ニッケル(119.525g)、硝酸コバルト(18.439g)及び硝酸マンガン(194.823g)を、0.404:0.064:0.532のモル比で水中で混合した。こうして形成した前駆体は、Ni0.404Co0.064Mn0.532(OH)2である。精製前駆体(85.268g)と炭酸リチウム(39.398g)を0.94:0.53のモル比で混合した。得られた正極材料はLi(Li0.06Ni0.38Co0.06Mn0.50)O2である。正極材料の配合を表1及び2にまとめる。
以下を除き、例1−1と同一の方法に従って正極材料を作製した。硝酸ニッケル(98.556g)、硝酸コバルト(32.097g)及び硝酸マンガン(203.481g)を、0.333:0.111:0.556のモル比で水中で混合した。こうして形成した前駆体は、Ni0.333Co0.111Mn0.556(OH)2である。精製前駆体(81.570g)と炭酸リチウム(40.885g)を0.90:0.55のモル比で混合した。得られた正極材料はLi(Li0.10Ni0.30Co0.10Mn0.50)O2である。正極材料の配合を表1及び2にまとめる。
以下を除き、例1−1と同一の方法に従って正極材料を作製した。硝酸ニッケル(94.076g)、硝酸コバルト(26.261g)及び硝酸マンガン(216.430g)を、0.318:0.091:0.591のモル比で水中で混合した。こうして形成した前駆体は、Ni0.318Co0.091Mn0.591(OH)2である。精製前駆体(79.636g)と炭酸リチウム(41.628g)を0.88:0.56のモル比で混合した。得られた正極材料はLi(Li0.12Ni0.28Co0.08Mn0.52)O2である。正極材料の配合を表1及び2にまとめる。
(例2−1)
ポリ二フッ化ビニリデン(PVDE)、スーパーPカーボンブラック及び例1−1の正極材料を、撹拌しながらN−メチル−2−ピロリドン(NMP)に順次添加して均一なスラリーを形成した。本実施例に使用したNMPは、PVDF、スーパーPカーボンブラック及び正極材料の総重量と等重量であった。次に、スラリーを0.2mmのドクターブレードを使用して高純度のアルミニウム箔上に塗布した。次に、塗布した電極を120℃に設定した真空オーブン中で1時間乾燥し、次にローラーを使用して圧縮することにより正極を得た。
例2−2から2−5の正極を作製するために、例1−2から1−5で得られた正極材料をそれぞれ使用したこと以外、例2−1と同一の方法に従って、例2−2から2−5のリチウムイオン電池を作製した。
正極を作製するための正極材料として、Li1.05Ni1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2(NM−3100、日本)を使用したこと以外、例2−1と同一の方法に従って、リチウムイオン電池を作製した。比較例で使用した正極材料は、空間群R−3mの単一相構造を有する。
(1)シンクロトロン放射光X線回折の解析:
図2は例1−1において製造した正極材料を撮影した走査型電子顕微鏡画像を示す。
図4を参照すると、例1−1から1−5で製造した正極材料の粉末X線回折スペクトルが得られ、それぞれ曲線(a)、(b)、(c)、(d)及び(e)で示す。この図で示されるように、30°から40°の範囲の回折角の特徴領域(fingerprint area)では、曲線(b)、(c)、(d)及び(e)は、曲線(a)と実質的に同じ回折ピーク分離を有する。したがって、例1−2から1−5で製造した正極材料も、空間群C2/mの単一相構造を有することが確認できる。
(1)本発明の正極材料中の酸素原子層の配置は、空間群C2/mの単一相構造を介して、「ABAB」の形態になるように制御され得る。正極材料の容量に悪影響を及ぼすことなく、充電/放電期間に、格子中のリチウムイオンの約70%から90%を放出することができる。したがって、酸素原子層間でのリチウムイオンの移動性を向上させることができる。
(2)該正極材料を用いると、格子中のリチウムイオンの約70%から90%は、放出することができ、負極及び正極間を安定に移動できる。したがって、従来技術より優れた比容量を得ることができる。

- リチウムイオン電池用のC2/m構造の正極材料であって、次式によって表されるリチウム遷移金属酸化物
Li(LiwNixCoyMnz)O2
(式中、
w+x+y+z=1であり、
0.02≦w≦0.20
0.50≦z≦0.52であり、
0.30≦x+y≦0.48であり、
x及びyのいずれも0より大きい)
であることを特徴とし、
空間群C2/mの単一相構造を有し、且つ
該リチウムイオン電池の放電比容量が、193.2mAh/g以上である、上記正極材料。 - 負極、
正極、
電解質、及び
該負極を該正極から分離するセパレータ
を備えることを特徴とし、該正極が、次式によって表されるリチウム遷移金属酸化物
Li(LiwNixCoyMnz)O2
(式中、
w+x+y+z=1であり、
0.02≦w≦0.20
0.50≦z≦0.52であり、
0.30≦x+y≦0.48であり、
x及びyのいずれも0より大きい)
を含むC2/m構造の正極材料を含有し、
前記正極材料が、空間群C2/mの単一相構造を有し、且つ
放電比容量が、193.2mAh/g以上であるリチウムイオン電池。
