Description
アニオン性のバインダー樹脂と、
多官能性アミンポリマーと、
揮発性アルカリとを含む電極用スラリー組成物。
電極活物質は、電気化学素子用電極内で電子の受け渡しをする物質である。電極活物質には主としてリチウムイオン二次電池用活物質、電気二重層キャパシタ用活物質やリチウムイオンキャパシタ用活物質がある。
本発明に用いるバインダー樹脂は、アニオン性を有し、電極活物質同士あるいは、電極活物質と集電体とを相互に結着させることができる樹脂である。このようなバインダー樹脂であれば特に制限されないが、好適なバインダー樹脂は、溶媒に分散する性質のある分散型バインダー樹脂である。分散型バインダー樹脂として、例えば、フッ素系重合体、ジエン系重合体、アクリレート系重合体、ポリイミド、ポリアミド、ポリウレタン系重合体等の高分子化合物が挙げられ、フッ素系重合体、ジエン系重合体又はアクリレート系重合体が好ましく、ジエン系重合体又はアクリレート系重合体が、耐電圧を高くでき、かつ電気化学素子のエネルギー密度を高くすることができる点でより好ましい。
本発明に係る電極用スラリー組成物は、多官能性アミンポリマーを含有することを特徴としている。多官能性アミンポリマーは、少なくとも1つのアミン官能基を有するポリマーである。
本発明に用いる多官能性アミンポリマーは、少なくとも1つの酸をさらに有することが好ましい。
本発明に用いる多官能アミンポリマーは、特に水溶性であることが好ましい。
揮発性アルカリは、常温近傍の溶液中では安定に存在するが、温度上昇により揮発するアルカリ成分である。したがって、常温近傍では、溶液のpHを高く維持するが、温度上昇につれて溶液のpHを低下させる作用を示す。
スラリーを得るために用いる分散媒として、通常、水が用いられるが、上記した各成分の分散状態が保たれる限り、有機溶媒を用いてもよい。有機溶媒としては、例えば、メチルアルコール、エチルアルコール、プロピルアルコールなどのアルキルアルコール類;アセトン、メチルエチルケトンなどのアルキルケトン類;テトラヒドロフラン、ジオキサン、ジグライム等のエーテル類;ジエチルホルムアミド、ジメチルアセトアミド、N−メチル−2−ピロリドン、ジメチルイミダゾリジノン等のアミド類;ジメチルスルホキサイド、スルホラン等のイオウ系溶剤;などが挙げられるが、アルコール類が好ましい。
導電材は、導電性を有し、電気二重層を形成し得る細孔を有さない粒子状の炭素の同素体からなり、具体的には、ファーネスブラック、アセチレンブラック、及びケッチェンブラック(アクゾノーベル ケミカルズ ベスローテン フェンノートシャップ社の登録商標)などの導電性カーボンブラックが挙げられる。これらの中でも、アセチレンブラックおよびファーネスブラックが好ましい。
分散剤とはスラリーの分散媒に溶解させて用いられ、電極活物質、バインダー樹脂、導電材等を分散媒に均一に分散させる作用をさらに有するものである。例えば、カルボキシメチルセルロース、メチルセルロース、エチルセルロース、ヒドロキシプロピルセルロースなどのセルロース系ポリマー、ならびにこれらのアンモニウム塩またはアルカリ金属塩;ポリアクリル酸(またはメタクリル酸)ナトリウムなどのポリアクリル酸(またはメタクリル酸)塩;ポリビニルアルコール、変性ポリビニルアルコール、ポリエチレンオキシド;ポリビニルピロリドン、ポリカルボン酸、酸化スターチ、リン酸スターチ、カゼイン、各種変性デンプン、キチン、キトサン誘導体などが挙げられる。これらの分散剤は、それぞれ単独でまたは2種以上を組み合わせて使用できる。中でも、セルロース系ポリマーが好ましく、カルボキシメチルセルロースまたはそのアンモニウム塩もしくはアルカリ金属塩が特に好ましい。
スラリーに添加されるその他の添加剤としては、例えば、界面活性剤があげられる。界面活性剤としては、アニオン性、カチオン性、ノニオン性、ノニオニックアニオンなどの両性の界面活性剤が挙げられるが、中でもアニオン性若しくはノニオン性の界面活性剤で熱分解しやすいものが好ましい。これら添加剤は単独で又は二種以上を組み合わせて用いることができる。
本発明の電極用スラリーは、水および前記の各成分を、混合機を用いて混合して製造できる。混合機としては、ボールミル、サンドミル、顔料分散機、擂潰機、超音波分散機、ホモジナイザー、プラネタリーミキサー、およびホバートミキサーなどを用いることができる。また、電極活物質と導電材とを擂潰機、プラネタリーミキサー、ヘンシェルミキサー、およびオムニミキサーなどの混合機を用いて先ず混合し、次いでバインダー樹脂、揮発性アルカリ、多官能性アミンポリマーなどを添加して均一に混合する方法も好ましい。多官能性アミンポリマーを添加する前に、揮発性アルカリをスラリーに添加するか、あるいは所定量の揮発性アルカリと多官能性アミンポリマーを混合したものをスラリーに添加することが望ましい。この方法を採ることにより、容易に均一なスラリーを得ることができる。
本発明の電極は、上記の電極用スラリー組成物を集電体に塗布乾燥して電極活物質を形成して得られる。集電体は、電気導電性を有しかつ電気化学的に耐久性のある材料であれば特に制限されないが、耐熱性を有するとの観点から、例えば、鉄、銅、アルミニウム、ニッケル、ステンレス鋼、チタン、タンタル、金、白金などの金属材料が好ましい。中でも、リチウムイオン二次電池の正極用としてはアルミニウムが特に好ましく、負極用としては銅が特に好ましい。集電体の形状は特に制限されないが、厚さ0.001〜0.5mm程度のシート状のものが好ましい。集電体は、電極活物質層との接着強度を高めるため、予め粗面化処理して使用するのが好ましい。粗面化方法としては、機械的研磨法、電解研磨法、化学研磨法などが挙げられる。機械的研磨法においては、研磨剤粒子を固着した研磨布紙、砥石、エメリバフ、鋼線などを備えたワイヤーブラシ等が使用される。また、電極活物質層の接着強度や導電性を高めるために、集電体表面に中間層を形成してもよい。
本発明の電極は、電極組成物層内において、バインダー樹脂や各成分が偏在化することが無いため、電極組成物層と集電体との接着強度が高く、電池の長寿命化が図られる。このため、本発明の電極はリチウムイオン二次電池、電気二重層キャパシタおよびリチウムイオンキャパシタなどの電気化学素子に好ましく使用することができる。
以下に、実施例を挙げて本発明を説明するが、本発明はこれに限定されるものではない。尚、本実施例における部および%は、特記しない限り質量基準である。
アニオン性バインダー樹脂の合成
(スチレン−ブタジエン重合体粒子の合成)
攪拌機付き5MPa耐圧オートクレーブに、スチレン47部、1,3−ブタジエン49部、メタクリル酸3部、アクリル酸1部、ドデシルベンゼンスルホン酸ナトリウム5部、イオン交換水150部、重合開始剤として過硫酸カリウム1部を入れ、十分に攪拌した後、45℃に加温して重合を開始した。モノマー消費量が96.0%になった時点で冷却し反応を止め、アニオン性バインダー樹脂として、アニオン含有量9.4%で、固形分濃度40%のジエン系重合体粒子水分散液(SB系粒子水分散液)を得た。
多官能性アミンポリマー1の合成
(ジメチルアミノエチルメタクリレート(90%)/メタクリル酸(10%)コポリマーの調製)
脱イオン水414gを含み、窒素雰囲気下、75℃にされた2リットルの反応容器に、15.6gの酢酸、6gの脱イオン水に溶解された硫酸鉄・6水和物の水溶液(0.15%)2.4g、6gの脱イオン水で希釈されたエチレンジアミン4酢酸4ナトリウム塩(1%)の水溶液2.1gを撹拌下加えた。180gのジメチルアミノエチルメタクリレートと20gのメタクリル酸からなるモノマー混合物を、t−ブチルハイドロパーオキサイド4.2g、25.5gの脱イオン水で希釈された酢酸0.3g、および27.5gの脱イオン水に溶解されたナトリウムスルホキシレートホルムアルデヒドジヒドレート2.5gとともに、反応容器中に2時間にわたり加えた。反応温度は75℃に保持された。モノマーおよび触媒の添加が終了した後、t−ブチルハイドロパーオキサイド0.52gとナトリウムスルホキシレートホルムアルデヒドジヒドレート0.14gのレドックス対を、反応混合物に加えた。濃水酸化アンモニウムを加え、pHを9.0にあげた。最終生成物である多官能性アミンポリマー1は、固形分29.8%、ブルックフィールド粘度3200cps(Brookfield Model LVTD 粘度計で、60回転、スピンドル4を使用)であった。
多官能性アミンポリマー2の合成
(ジメチルアミノエチルメタクリレートホモポリマーの調整)
脱イオン水590gを含み、窒素雰囲気下、75℃にされた2リットルの反応容器に、17.5gの酢酸、7.5gの脱イオン水に溶解された硫酸鉄・6水和物の水溶液(0.15%)2.4g、8gの脱イオン水で希釈されたエチレンジアミン4酢酸4ナトリウム塩(1%)の水溶液2.1gを撹拌下加えた。その後、200gのジメチルアミノエチルメタクリレートを、t−ブチルハイドロパーオキサイド4.2g、25.5gの脱イオン水で希釈された酢酸0.3g、および27.5gの脱イオン水に溶解されたナトリウムスルホキシレートホルムアルデヒドジヒドレート2.5gとともに、反応温度を75℃に保持しつつ、反応容器中の反応混合物に2時間にわたり加えた。モノマーおよび触媒の添加が終了した後、t−ブチルハイドロパーオキサイド0.52gとナトリウムスルホキシレートホルムアルデヒドジヒドレート0.14gのレドックス対を、反応混合物に加えた。最終生成物である多官能性アミンポリマー2は、固形分29.8%、ブルックフィールド粘度40cps(Brookfield Model LVTD 粘度計で、60回転、スピンドル2を使用)、pH7.9であった。
二次電池負極スラリーの調製
1%水溶液粘度が2000mPa・sであるカルボキシメチルセルロース(ダイセル化学工業株式会社製「Daicel2200」)を用いて、1%水溶液を調整した。
多官能性アミノポリマーとして、多官能性アミノポリマー1のかわりに製造例3で得られた多官能性アミノポリマー2を用いた他は、実施例1と同様にして電極用スラリー組成物を得、同様の評価を行った。結果を表1に示す。
実施例1で用いた製造例1の多官能性アミンポリマーの量を9.0重量部としたほかは実施例1と同様の評価を行った。結果を表1に示す。
多官能性アミンポリマーを加えない他は、実施例1と同様にして電極用スラリー組成物を得、同様の評価を行った。
Claims (5)
- 電極活物質と、
アニオン性のバインダー樹脂と、
多官能性アミンポリマーと、
揮発性アルカリとを含む電極用スラリー組成物であって、
リチウムイオン二次電池用電極、電気二重層キャパシタ用電極およびリチウムイオンキャパシタ用電極からなる群から選択される電極の製造に用いられる電極用スラリー組成物。
- 導電材をさらに含む請求項1に記載の電極用スラリー組成物。
- 分散剤をさらに含む請求項1または2に記載の電極用スラリー組成物。
- 請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の電極用スラリー組成物を集電体に塗布、乾燥して製造された電極。
- 請求項4に記載の電極を有する電気化学素子。
