本発明の発光素子は、一対の電極間に、発光層とキャリアの移動を制御する制御層を有する。制御層は、第1の有機化合物と第2の有機化合物とを含み、第1の有機化合物は第2の有機化合物よりも多く含まれており、第2の有機化合物は、第1の有機化合物のキャリア輸送性と同極性のキャリアをトラップするキャリアトラップ性を有する。
本発明に係る発光素子の一態様について図2〜図4を用いて以下に説明する。本発明に係る発光素子は、実施の形態1で示したキャリアの移動を制御する制御層を有する。
本実施の形態は、本発明に係る複数の発光ユニットを積層した構成の発光素子(以下、積層型素子という)の態様について、図5を参照して説明する。この発光素子は、第1の電極と第2の電極との間に、複数の発光ユニットを有する積層型発光素子である。各発光ユニットの構成としては、実施の形態1〜実施の形態2で示した構成と同様な構成を用いることができる。つまり、実施の形態1〜実施の形態2で示した発光素子は、1つの発光ユニットを有する発光素子である。本実施の形態では、複数の発光ユニットを有する発光素子について説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の発光素子を有する発光装置について説明する。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態3に示す発光装置をその一部に含む本発明の電子機器について説明する。本発明の電子機器は、実施の形態1〜実施の形態2で示した発光素子を有し、寿命の長い表示部を有する。
まず、本実施例で用いる参照電極(Ag/Ag+電極)の真空準位に対するポテンシャルエネルギー(eV)を算出した。つまり、Ag/Ag+電極のフェルミ準位を算出した。メタノール中におけるフェロセンの酸化還元電位は、標準水素電極に対して+0.610[V vs. SHE]であることが知られている(参考文献:Christian R.Goldsmith et al., J.Am.Chem.Soc., Vol.124, No.1,83−96, 2002)。一方、本実施例で用いる参照電極を用いて、メタノール中におけるフェロセンの酸化還元電位を求めたところ、+0.11V[vs.Ag/Ag+]であった。したがって、本実施例で用いる参照電極のポテンシャルエネルギーは、標準水素電極に対して0.50[eV]低くなっていることがわかった。
まず、本測定例で、CV測定からのLUMO準位の算出について詳述する。Alqの還元反応特性のCV測定結果を図16に示す。なお、還元反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−0.98Vから−2.50Vまで走査した後、−2.50Vから−0.98Vまで走査した。
TPQの還元反応特性のCV測定結果を図17に示す。なお、還元反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−1.48Vから−2.65Vまで走査した後、−2.65Vから−1.48Vまで走査した。
C545Tの還元反応特性のCV測定結果を図18に示す。なお、還元反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−1.14Vから−2.50Vまで走査した後、−2.50Vから−1.14Vまで走査した。
DPQdの還元反応特性のCV測定結果を図19に示す。なお、還元反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−0.95Vから−2.40Vまで走査した後、−2.40Vから−0.95Vまで走査した。
発光素子1と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるTPQの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとTPQとの重量比が、1:0.01(=Alq:TPQ)となるように調節し、発光素子2を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるTPQの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとTPQとの重量比が、1:0.05(=Alq:TPQ)となるように調節し、発光素子3を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114を設けない構成とした。つまり、発光層上に、Alqを40nmの膜厚となるように成膜し、電子輸送層を形成した。その他は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子5と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるC545Tの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとC545Tとの重量比が、1:0.05(=Alq:C545T)となるように調節し、発光素子6を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子5と同様に作製した。
発光素子5と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるC545Tの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとC545Tとの重量比が、1:0.1(=Alq:C545T)となるように調節し、発光素子7を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子5と同様に作製した。
発光素子5と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるC545Tの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとC545Tとの重量比が、1:0.5(=Alq:C545T)となるように調節し、発光素子8を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子5と同様に作製した。
発光素子9と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるDPQdの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比が、1:0.003(=Alq:DPQd)となるように調節し、発光素子10を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子9と同様に作製した。
発光素子9と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるDPQdの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比が、1:0.005(=Alq:DPQd)となるように調節し、発光素子11を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子9と同様に作製した。
発光素子9と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるDPQdの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比が、1:0.007(=Alq:DPQd)となるように調節し、発光素子12を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子9と同様に作製した。
発光素子13と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるDPQdの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比が、1:0.01(=Alq:DPQd)となるように調節し、発光素子14を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子13と同様に作製した。
発光素子13と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114におけるDPQdの濃度を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比が、1:0.02(=Alq:DPQd)となるように調節し、発光素子15を作製した。制御層2114以外は発光素子13と同様に作製した。
発光素子16と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114の膜厚を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比は1:0.005(=Alq:DPQd)に固定したまま、制御層2114の膜厚は10nmとした。なお、本発光素子17においては、電子輸送層2115のAlqの膜厚を30nmとし、制御層2114と電子輸送層2115のトータル膜厚が発光素子16と同じく40nmとなるように調節した。制御層2114および電子輸送層2115の膜厚以外は発光素子16と同様に作製した。
発光素子16と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114の膜厚を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比は1:0.005(=Alq:DPQd)に固定したまま、制御層2114の膜厚は15nmとした。なお、本発光素子18においては、電子輸送層2115のAlqの膜厚を25nmとし、制御層2114と電子輸送層2115のトータル膜厚が発光素子16と同じく40nmとなるように調節した。制御層2114および電子輸送層2115の膜厚以外は発光素子16と同様に作製した。
発光素子16と同一基板を用い、電子の移動を制御する制御層2114の膜厚を変化させた。つまり、AlqとDPQdとの重量比は1:0.005(=Alq:DPQd)に固定したまま、制御層2114の膜厚は20nmとした。なお、本発光素子19においては、電子輸送層2115のAlqの膜厚を20nmとし、制御層2114と電子輸送層2115のトータル膜厚が発光素子16と同じく40nmとなるように調節した。制御層2114および電子輸送層2115の膜厚以外は発光素子16と同様に作製した。
