Description
本発明の発光素子は、一対の電極間に、発光層とキャリアの移動を制御する制御層を有する。制御層は、第1の有機化合物と第2の有機化合物とを含み、第1の有機化合物は第2の有機化合物よりも多く含まれており、第2の有機化合物は、第1の有機化合物のキャリア輸送性と同極性のキャリアをトラップするキャリアトラップ性を有する。
本発明に係る発光素子の一態様について図2〜図4を用いて以下に説明する。本発明に係る発光素子は、実施の形態1で示したキャリアの移動を制御する制御層を有する。
本実施の形態は、本発明に係る複数の発光ユニットを積層した構成の発光素子(以下、積層型素子という)の態様について、図5を参照して説明する。この発光素子は、第1の電極と第2の電極との間に、複数の発光ユニットを有する積層型発光素子である。各発光ユニットの構成としては、実施の形態1〜実施の形態2で示した構成と同様な構成を用いることができる。つまり、実施の形態1〜実施の形態2で示した発光素子は、1つの発光ユニットを有する発光素子である。本実施の形態では、複数の発光ユニットを有する発光素子について説明する。
本実施の形態では、本発明の発光素子を有する発光装置について説明する。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態3に示す発光装置をその一部に含む本発明の電子機器について説明する。本発明の電子機器は、実施の形態1〜実施の形態2で示した発光素子を有し、寿命の長い表示部を有する。
まず、本実施例で用いる参照電極(Ag/Ag+電極)の真空準位に対するポテンシャルエネルギー(eV)を算出した。つまり、Ag/Ag+電極のフェルミ準位を算出した。メタノール中におけるフェロセンの酸化還元電位は、標準水素電極に対して+0.610[V vs. SHE]であることが知られている(参考文献:Christian R.Goldsmith et al., J.Am.Chem.Soc., Vol.124, No.1,83−96, 2002)。一方、本実施例で用いる参照電極を用いて、メタノール中におけるフェロセンの酸化還元電位を求めたところ、+0.11V[vs.Ag/Ag+]であった。したがって、本実施例で用いる参照電極のポテンシャルエネルギーは、標準水素電極に対して0.50[eV]低くなっていることがわかった。
まず、本測定例で、CV測定からのHOMO準位の算出について詳述する。NPBの酸化反応特性のCV測定結果を図16に示す。なお、酸化反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−0.32Vから1.00Vまで走査した後、1.00Vから−0.32Vまで走査した。
BPAPQの酸化反応特性のCV測定結果を図17に示す。なお、酸化反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を0.15Vから1.00Vまで走査した後、1.00Vから0.15Vまで走査した。
1’−TNATAの酸化反応特性のCV測定結果を図18に示す。なお、酸化反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−0.35Vから0.60Vまで走査した後、0.60Vから−0.35Vまで走査した。
PCzPCA1の酸化反応特性のCV測定結果を図19に示す。なお、酸化反応特性の測定は、参照電極に対する作用電極の電位を−0.08Vから0.45Vまで走査した後、0.45Vから−0.08Vまで走査した。
発光素子1の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、NPBと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.01(=NPB:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子2を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、NPBと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.05(=NPB:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子3を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、NPBと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.1(=NPB:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子4を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、NPBと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.2(=NPB:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子5を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、NPBと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.5(=NPB:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子6を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
発光素子1の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における正孔トラップ性を示す材料(1’−TNATA)を添加しない構成とした。つまり、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113において、NPBのみを10nmの膜厚となるように成膜した。換言すれば、正孔輸送層2112としてNPBを20nm成膜し、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113が設けられていない素子構造である。その他は発光素子1と同様に作製した。
制御層2113の構成を以下のようにした以外は、実施例2の発光素子1と同様にして作製した。すなわち発光素子8においては、N,N’−(キノキサリン−2,3−ジイルジ−4,1−フェニレン)ビス(N−フェニル−1,1’−ビフェニル−4−アミン)(略称:BPAPQ)と4,4’,4’’−トリス[N−(1−ナフチル)−N−フェニルアミノ]トリフェニルアミン(略称:1’−TNATA)とを共蒸着することにより、正孔輸送層2112上に10nmの膜厚の正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113を形成した。ここで、BPAPQと1’−TNATAとの重量比は、1:0.005(=BPAPQ:1’−TNATA)となるように調節した。
発光素子8の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.01(=BPAPQ:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子9を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子8と同様に作製した。
発光素子8の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.05(=BPAPQ:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子10を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子8と同様に作製した。
発光素子8の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.1(=BPAPQ:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子11を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子8と同様に作製した。
発光素子8の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.2(=BPAPQ:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子12を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子8と同様に作製した。
発光素子8の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113における1’−TNATAの濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQと1’−TNATAとの重量比が、1:0.5(=BPAPQ:1’−TNATA)となるように調節し、発光素子13を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子8と同様に作製した。
制御層2113の構成を以下のようにした以外は、実施例2の発光素子1と同様にして作製した。すなわち発光素子14においては、N,N’−(キノキサリン−2,3−ジイルジ−4,1−フェニレン)ビス(N−フェニル−1,1’−ビフェニル−4−アミン)(略称:BPAPQ)と3−[N−(9−フェニルカルバゾール−3−イル)−N−フェニルアミノ]−9−フェニルカルバゾール(略称:PCzPCA1)とを共蒸着することにより、正孔輸送層2112上に10nmの膜厚の正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113を形成した。ここで、BPAPQとPCzPCA1との重量比は、1:0.005(=BPAPQ:PCzPCA1)となるように調節した。
発光素子14の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113におけるPCzPCA1の濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQとPCzPCA1との重量比が、1:0.01(=BPAPQ:PCzPCA1)となるように調節し、発光素子15を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子14と同様に作製した。
発光素子14の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113におけるPCzPCA1の濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQとPCzPCA1との重量比が、1:0.05(=BPAPQ:PCzPCA1)となるように調節し、発光素子16を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子14と同様に作製した。
発光素子14の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113におけるPCzPCA1の濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQとPCzPCA1との重量比が、1:0.1(=BPAPQ:PCzPCA1)となるように調節し、発光素子17を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子14と同様に作製した。
発光素子14の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113におけるPCzPCA1の濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQとPCzPCA1との重量比が、1:0.2(=BPAPQ:PCzPCA1)となるように調節し、発光素子18を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子14と同様に作製した。
発光素子14の素子構造において、正孔の移動を制御する制御層2113におけるPCzPCA1の濃度を変化させた。つまり、BPAPQとPCzPCA1との重量比が、1:0.5(=BPAPQ:PCzPCA1)となるように調節し、発光素子19を作製した。制御層2113以外は発光素子14と同様に作製した。

前記制御層と前記発光層とは接することを特徴とする発光素子。
