Description
こうした問題は、内部端子上に、内部端子を電解質から保護する保護膜を形成し、該保護膜の保護によって回避可能と考えられる。この保護膜は、アルミニウムや炭素を主体とした腐食が少ない材料を用い、蒸着、スパッタ、溶射、噴射、ペースト塗布などの方法で形成することができる。しかし、いずれの方法も粒子を堆積させた膜のため、微小なピンホールを有することがある。この結果、保護膜にピンホールのないものでは、長時間良好な特性を示すが、ピンホールのあるものでは、徐々に電解質が保護膜中を浸透し、ついには内部端子を腐食して端子を断線させる。ピンホールの発生は、保護膜の膜厚を厚くすることにより低減できると考えられるが、膜形成に時間がかかり電気化学セルが高価になる。また、保護膜の厚み相当分の電極厚みを減らさなければならないため、電気化学セルの容量が減ってしまう。
また、上記電気化学セルにおいて、前記セラミックは、アルミナ、窒化ケイ素、ジルコニア、炭化ケイ素、窒化アルミニウム、ムライト及びこれらの複合材料からなる群から選ばれる少なくとも1種類を含むことが好ましい。
また、上記電気化学セルにおいて、前記蓋は、コバールからなることが好ましい。
本発明を具体化した第一実施形態の電気化学セル(電気二重層キャパシタおよび電池)を図1〜図4に従って説明する。図1は、電気化学セルの断面図、図2は、該電気化学セルを構成する凹状容器の斜視図、図3は、該電気化学セルの分解図を示す。
負極6と正極7には、電気化学セルを電気二重層キャパシタとして使用する場合に、それぞれおが屑、椰子殻、ピッチなどを賦活処理して得られる活性炭粉末を、適当なバインダーと一緒にプレス成型、または圧延ロールしたものを用いることができる。また、フェノール系、レーヨン系、アクリル系、ピッチ系などの繊維を、不融化および炭化賦活処理して活性炭または活性炭繊維とし、これをフェルト状、繊維状、紙状、または焼結体状にして用いてもよい。またポリアニリン(PAN)やポリアセンなども利用できる。
液体状及びゲル状の電解質10に用いられる有機溶媒には、アセトニトリル、ジエチルエーテル、ジエチルカーボネート、ジメチルカーボーネート、1,2−ジメトキシエタン、テトラヒドロフラン、プロピレンカーボネート(PC)、エチレンカーボネート(EC)、γ−ブチロラクトン(γBL)などがある。
図1において、凹状容器1の凹部の底面であって、前記内部端子5aと前記正極7との間には、保護膜9が形成されている。保護膜9は、耐腐食性が高く、導電性を有した薄膜であって、凹状容器1の凹部底面にのみ形成されている。保護膜9は、前記内部端子5aの全体を覆うように積層されて、各内部端子5aと電解質10との間の接触を抑制し、充電や放電による内部端子5aの腐食を抑制する。この保護膜9には、耐腐食性が高く、低抵抗材料であるアルミニウムまたは炭素を主体とした材料を用いることができる。アルミニウムからなる保護膜9は、JISにより規定された純アルミニウム系、Al−Cu系合金、Al−Mn系合金、Al−Mg系合金などを用いた蒸着、スパッタ、溶射、ペースト塗布などの方法で形成することができる。特に、蒸着やスパッタで形成したアルミニウムの保護膜9は、ピンホールが少ない点で好ましい。また、グラファイトなどの炭素からなる保護膜9は、内側底面に熱硬化性樹脂(例えば、フェノール樹脂)中に分散した導電性接着剤を塗布し、硬化させたものを利用することができる。導電性接着剤からなる保護膜9は、凹状容器1と正極7との間の接着層としても利用することができる。また、保護膜9は、そのピンホールを減らすために、これらを積層してもよい。
また、市販の活性炭にグラファイトとポリテトラフルオロエチエンを9:1:1の割合で混合して圧延し、厚みが200μmの活性炭シートを形成する。そして、活性炭シートを四角形に打ち抜き、正極7と負極6を形成する。
正極7と負極6をそれぞれ保護膜9と蓋3に接着したあと、ガラス繊維製のセパレータ8を正極7の上に配置させる。次いで、プロピレンカーボネート(PC)に(C2H5)4NBF4を1mol/L溶かした電解質10を凹状容器1に注入する。そして、蓋3をシールリング2上に配置し、蓋3上の2点をスポット抵抗溶接により仮止めした後、2つのローラー電極がある抵抗シーム溶接機で蓋3の全周を窒素雰囲気中で溶接する。
まず、上記電気二重層キャパシタ(実施例)と比較するための二種類の電気二重層キャパシタ(比較例1及び比較例2)を、以下のように形成する。
(1)電気化学セルの端子は、電解質10を収納する凹部に、互いに離間する6本の内部端子5aを有する。6本の内部端子5aの各々は、凹状容器1の凹部の外側、すなわち電解質10と触れない部分で、内層配線5cに共通接続される。内層配線5cは、凹状容器1の外周面で正極用外部端子5b1に共通接続される。従って、内部端子5aが電解質10との接触によって腐食する場合であっても、すべての内部端子5aが腐食して断線しない限り、電気化学セルの電気的特性を維持させることができる。この結果、信頼性が高く高容量な電気化学セルを提供することができる。
次に、本発明を具体化した第二実施形態を、上記第一実施形態との相違点を中心に、図5〜図8に従って説明する。図5は第二実施形態の電気化学セルの断面図、図6は該電気化学セルを構成する凹状容器の斜視図、図7は該凹状容器の底面図、図8は該電気化学セルの分解図を示す。
図7及び図8に示すように、第1底部1a1の底面には、正極7に対応する共通外部端子としての正極用外部端子5b1と、負極6に対応する負極用外部端子5b2が形成されている。正極用外部端子5b1と負極用外部端子5b2は、第一実施形態と同じく、それぞれ凹状容器1の底面から凹状容器の外周面に延設されて対応する電極に接続される。
保護膜9は、凹状容器1の凹部側面にマスクを施し、該凹部内にスパッタ、溶射、ペースト塗布などを施すことによって形成される。こうした方法で成膜される保護膜9は、凹部底面の縁で凹部中央近傍よりも粗な膜質(ピンホールを多く含んだ膜質)を呈する。そのため、本実施形態の内部端子5aは、その形成位置が第2底部1a2の中央近傍である分だけ、粗な膜質の保護膜9を回避し、より良質な保護膜9によって保護される。
(4)電気化学セルの端子は、電解質10を収納する凹部底面に、互いに離間する6本のビア配線L2を有する。6本のビア配線L2の各々は、上部端面(内部端子5a)のみを凹部底面に露出して正極7に共通接続される。従って、ビア配線L2からなる内部端子5aは、その露出面積を小さくする分だけ、電解質10との接触頻度を低下させることができる。この結果、電気化学セルの信頼性を、さらに向上させることができる。
Claims (8)
- 凹状容器と、
前記凹状容器の底部における複数のビアホールの各々に形成された複数のビア配線と、
前記凹状容器の外側底面に形成された外部端子と、
前記凹状容器の開口部に接合されたシールリングと、
前記シールリングに接合され、前記開口部を封口する蓋と、
を備える電気化学セルであって、
前記凹状容器はセラミックからなり、
前記シールリングと前記蓋とは金属からなり、
前記凹状容器の内側底面には、アルミニウムからなり、前記複数のビア配線の各々の露出部分を覆う保護膜が形成され、
前記凹状容器、前記シールリング、及び、前記蓋によって形成される空間には、一対の電極と電解質とが収納され、
前記電解質は、液体状またはゲル状であり、
前記複数のビア配線の各々は、
前記露出部分が前記保護膜を介して前記一対の電極の一方に電気的に接続され、
前記底部内にて該底部内に形成された複数の配線のうち互いに異なる配線に接続され、各配線を介して前記外部端子と電気的に接続される
ことを特徴とする電気化学セル。 - 前記底部は、
