かかる方法で検出器の出力を正規化することによって、レーザパワー制御装置は、レーザパワー減衰器に所与の信号レベルで切り替えるのではなく、同じ散乱光レベルで一貫して切り替えさせる。すなわち、検出器の利得が増加すると、すべての信号はより大きくなる。検出器の利得が増加する際に検出器の出力が正規化されない場合、切り替えは、実際に意図されるよりも小さな粒子サイズで発生する可能性がある。入射レーザパワーと検出器の利得に対して検出器の出力を正規化することは、所与のサイズの粒子が検出されると(例えば、より低いパワー・レベルに)一貫して切り替えることを可能にする。

場合によっては、レーザパワー減衰器によって提供される追加的な検出範囲は、システムの測定検出範囲全体を約2倍から16倍まで増加する。(改善されたPMT検出器及び/又はデュアル出力増幅器など)本明細書で説明されるその他の手段と組み合わされる場合、検査システムの測定検出範囲全体は、従来技術に対して約2倍から10,000倍まで改善される。
Claims (10)
- 試料から散乱された光を検出するための回路であって、
前記試料から散乱された前記光を受信して、電気信号に変換するための光電子増倍管(PMT)であって、前記PMTが陰極と、多数のダイノード及び陽極からなる複数のステージとを含み、前記電気信号が前記陽極からなるステージで出力信号を生み出すために各連続的なステージで増幅されるPMTと、
前記PMTの前記ダイノードからなるステージのうちの1つで前記増幅された電気信号を表す中間信号と共に前記出力信号を受信するために前記PMTに結合された手段と
を含み、
前記PMTの前記ダイノードからなるステージのうちの1つで前記増幅された電気信号を表す中間信号と共に前記出力信号を受信するために前記PMTに結合された手段が、
前記出力信号が所定の閾値未満にとどまる限り、前記出力信号を検査システム構成要素に供給し、かつ
前記出力信号が前記所定の閾値に達すると、前記中間信号を前記検査システム構成要素に供給するように
構成され、
前記PMTの前記陰極と前記陽極の間に結合された複数の抵抗器をさらに含み、
前記複数の抵抗器が、各々、関連する個別の電源を有する、直列結合された第1の抵抗器部分と、直列結合された第2の抵抗器部分とを構成し、
前記直列結合された第1の抵抗器部分と、前記直列結合された第2の抵抗器部分とは、直列結合されていないことを特徴とする、回路。 - 前記所定の閾値が、前記陽極からなるステージが飽和し始める最高電流レベル、又は前記陽極ステージが飽和し始める電流レベルをごくわずかに下回る電流レベルを含む請求項1に記載の回路。
- 前記所定の閾値が1μAから10mAの値の範囲内にある請求項2に記載の回路。
- 前記中間信号が較正比率によって乗算された前記1つのダイノードからなるステージからの前記増幅された電気信号を含む請求項2に記載の回路。
- 前記較正比率が前記1つのダイノードからなるステージからの前記増幅された電気信号によって除算された前記陽極からなるステージでの前記電流レベルを含む請求項4に記載の回路。
- 前記PMTの前記ダイノードからなるステージのうちの1つで前記増幅された電気信号を表す中間信号と共に前記出力信号を受信するために前記PMTに結合された手段が、前記出力信号を前記検査システム構成要素に供給しながら、前記出力信号を監視して、前記出力信号が前記所定の閾値に達すると、前記中間信号に切り替えるように構成された制御論理を含む請求項1に記載の回路。
- 前記PMTの前記ダイノードからなるステージのうちの1つで前記増幅された電気信号を表す中間信号と共に前記出力信号を受信するために前記PMTに結合された手段が、
前記出力信号を前記検査システム構成要素に供給しながら、前記出力信号を監視するための第1のプログラム命令のセットと、
