電子は、一般に、青色光および赤色光電界発光材料を含む層に閉じ込められている。緑色発光は、青色光電界発光材料から緑色光電界発光材料へのフォースター転移によって生じる。赤色発光は、妨げられていない緑色層を通過する。その結果、観察される色は、赤色と緑色と青色を混合したもの、すなわち白色である。

ポリマーは、好ましくは、アリーレン繰り返し単位から選択される第1繰り返し単位、特に応用物理学会誌、1996年、79、p.934に開示されているような1,4−フェニレン繰り返し単位;欧州特許第0842208号明細書に開示されているようなフルオレン繰り返し単位;例えばマクロモレキュールズ、2000年、33(6)、p.2016〜2020に開示されているようなインデノフルオレン繰り返し単位;および例えば欧州特許第0707020号明細書に開示されているようなスピロフルオレン繰り返し単位を含んで成る。これらの繰り返し単位はそれぞれ、任意に置換されている。置換基の例としては、C1〜20アルキルまたはアルコキシなどの可溶化基;フッ素、ニトロ、もしくはシアノなどの電子吸引性基;および前記ポリマーのガラス転移温度(Tg)を高める置換基が挙げられる。

Yamamoto)、「有機金属法によって調製された導電性でかつ熱安定性のpi−共役ポリ(アリーレン)類(Electrically Conducting And Thermally Stable pi - conjugated Poly(arylene)s Prepared by Organometallic Processes)」、高分子科学の進捗(Progress in Polymer Science)、1993年、17、p.1153〜1205に記載されているようなヤマモト(Yamamoto)重合である。これらの重合法はいずれも、金属錯体触媒の金属原子をモノマーのアリール基と離脱基との間に挿入する、「金属挿入」によって操作される。ヤマモト重合の場合は、ニッケル錯体触媒を使用し、スズキ重合の場合はパラジウム錯体触媒を使用する。
単一ポリマーまたは複数のポリマーを溶液から堆積させて、層を形成することができる。ポリアリーレン類、特にポリフルオレン類に好適な溶媒としては、トルエンおよびキシレンなどのモノ−またはポリ−アルキルベンゼン類が挙げられる。特に好ましい溶液堆積技術は、スピンコーティングおよびインクジェット印刷である。

Claims (20)
- アノードと、
カソードと、
前記アノードと前記カソードとの間の有機発光領域と、
を含む有機発光装置であって、
前記有機発光領域が、
励起子の放射崩壊によって第1CIE座標を有する光を放射する青色光電界発光有機材料の層と、
励起子の放射崩壊によって第2CIE座標を有する光を本質的に放射する、より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層と、
を含み、
前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層と前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層は、前記有機発光領域が、3000〜9000Kで黒体によって放射される白色光と同等のCIEx座標と、黒体によって放射される前記白色光のCIEy座標の0.05以内のCIEy座標を有する領域に含まれる白色光を放射するように選択され、
前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層がポリマーを含み、
前記青色光電界発光有機材料が発光性ドーパントでドーピングされていないものであり、
前記青色光電界発光有機材料がポリマーを含む、有機発光装置。 - 前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料が実質的に架橋されていない、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料が、溶液からの堆積後に熱処理することによって形成される、請求項1または2に記載の装置。
- 前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料が、下記式(I)の繰り返し単位を含んで成るポリマーであり、
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層が、CIEx座標0.25以下およびCIEy座標0.3以下を有する光を放射する、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の装置。
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料と前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料は、それぞれ溶液処理可能なポリマーを含む、請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の装置。
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料が、下記の式1〜6の少なくとも1つの繰り返し単位を含んで成るポリマーであり、
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料および前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料は、エミッターがそれ以上存在しないときに前記有機発光領域が白色光を放射するように選択される、請求項1〜7のいずれか1項に記載の装置。
- 前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層が、前記アノードと前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層との間に配置される、請求項1〜8のいずれか1項に記載の装置。
- 前記アノードと前記有機発光領域との間に配置されたホール輸送層を更に含む、請求項1〜9のいずれか1項に記載の装置。
- 請求項1〜10のいずれか1項に記載の装置を具備する、フラットパネルディスプレイ用のバックライト。
- 有機発光装置の製造方法であって、
前記方法が、
アノードを提供することと、
任意に、前記アノードの上にホール輸送層を形成することと、
前記アノードまたは前記ホール輸送層の上に、第1波長で光を本質的に放射する第1電界発光有機材料の層を堆積させることと、
前記第1電界発光有機材料の層の上に第2電界発光有機材料の層を堆積させることと、
カソードを提供することと、
を含み、
前記カソードと前記アノードとの間に、青色光電界発光有機材料の層およびより長波長の電界発光有機材料の層を含む有機材料発光領域が形成され、
前記第1電界発光有機材料の層が、前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層であり、前記第2電界発光有機材料の層が、前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層であるか、または、前記第1電界発光有機材料の層が、前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層であり、前記第2電界発光有機材料の層が、前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層であり、
前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層と前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料の層は、前記有機発光領域が、3000〜9000Kで黒体によって放射される白色光と同等のCIEx座標と、前記黒体によって放射される前記白色光のCIEy座標の0.05以内のCIEy座標を有する領域に含まれる白色光を放射するように選択され、
前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料がポリマーを含み、
前記青色光電界発光有機材料が発光性ドーパントでドーピングされていないものであり、
前記青色光電界発光有機材料がポリマーを含む、有機発光装置の製造方法。 - 前記第1電界発光有機材料が、前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料である、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 前記第1電界発光有機材料の層を溶液から堆積後加熱し、そして前記第2有機材料の層を、前記第1電界発光有機材料が溶解する溶媒から堆積させる、請求項12または13に記載の方法。
- 前記第1電界発光有機材料の層を堆積後加熱する工程が、実質的に架橋が生じない条件下で行われる、請求項14に記載の方法。
- 前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料が、下記式(I)の繰り返し単位を含んで成るポリマーであり、
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料の層が、CIEx座標0.25以下およびCIEy座標0.3以下を有する光を放射する、請求項12〜16のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料が下記式1〜6の繰り返し単位のうち少なくとも1つを含んで成るポリマーであり、
- 前記青色光電界発光有機材料と前記より長波長の電界発光有機材料は、エミッターがそれ以上存在しないときに前記有機発光領域が白色光を放射するように選択される、請求項12〜18のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 前記有機発光装置がフラットパネルディスプレイ用のバックライトを構成する、請求項12〜19のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
