Description
前記第1絶縁基板上に形成されており、第1方向にのびている第1信号線、
前記第1絶縁基板上に形成され、前記第1信号線と絶縁されて交差し、2つの直線部を含む屈折部と、前記第1方向と交差している第2方向にのびている部分とを有する第2信号線、
前記第1信号線と前記第2信号線が交差して定義する画素毎に、前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲して形成されており、屈曲している部分から、前記第2信号線の2つの直線部が出会う部分である第1側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第1切開部を有する第1画素電極、
前記画素毎に前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲して形成され、前記第1画素電極と容量性結合をなしており、屈曲している部分から、前記第1側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第2切開部を有する第2画素電極、
前記第1信号線、前記第2信号線及び前記第1画素電極と連結されている薄膜トランジスタ、
前記第1絶縁基板と対向している第2絶縁基板、
前記第2絶縁基板上に前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲して形成され、ドメイン分割手段を備えている共通電極、
前記第1絶縁基板と前記第2絶縁基板との間に充填されている液晶層を含み、
前記ドメイン分割手段は、前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲した第3切開部からなり、
前記第3切開部は、屈曲している部分から、前記第1側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第1部分と、前記屈曲している部分から離隔した端部において、前記第1側とは反対側の第2側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第2部分と、を有し、
前記第1及び第2画素電極は、前記ドメイン分割手段によって複数のドメインに分割され、前記ドメインの長辺2つは隣接する前記第2信号線の屈折部と実質的に平行であり、前記第2信号線の屈折部は画素の長さ毎に2つ以上現れる液晶表示装置を用意する。
この時、ドメインの2つの長辺間距離、即ちドメインの幅は10μmから30μmの範囲が好ましい。
Vb=Va×[Ccp/(Ccp+Clcb)]
であり、Ccp/(Ccp+Clcb)は常に1より小さいので、VbはVaに比べて常に小さい。そしてCcpを調節することによってVaに対するVbの比率を調整できる。Ccpの調節は、結合電極176と第2画素電極190bの重畳面積または距離を調整することによって可能である。重畳面積は、結合電極176の幅を変化させることによって容易に調整でき、距離は結合電極176の形成位置を変化させることによって調整できる。即ち、本発明の実施例では、結合電極176をデータ線171と同じ層に形成したが、ゲート線121と同じ層に形成することによって結合電極176と第2画素電極190bとの間の距離を増加させることができる。

Claims (8)
- 第1絶縁基板、
前記第1絶縁基板上に形成されており、第1方向にのびている第1信号線、
前記第1絶縁基板上に形成され、前記第1信号線と絶縁されて交差し、2つの直線部を含む屈折部と、前記第1方向と交差している第2方向にのびている部分とを有する第2信号線、
前記第1信号線と前記第2信号線が交差して定義する画素毎に、前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲して形成されており、屈曲している部分から、前記第2信号線の2つの直線部が出会う部分である第1側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第1切開部を有する第1画素電極、
前記画素毎に前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲して形成され、前記第1画素電極と容量性結合をなしており、屈曲している部分から、前記第1側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第2切開部を有する第2画素電極、
前記第1信号線、前記第2信号線及び前記第1画素電極と連結されている薄膜トランジスタ、
前記第1絶縁基板と対向している第2絶縁基板、
前記第2絶縁基板上に前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲して形成され、ドメイン分割手段を備えている共通電極、
前記第1絶縁基板と前記第2絶縁基板との間に充填されている液晶層を含み、
前記ドメイン分割手段は、前記第2信号線に沿って屈曲した第3切開部からなり、
前記第3切開部は、屈曲している部分から、前記第1側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第1部分と、前記屈曲している部分から離隔した端部において、前記第1側とは反対側の第2側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第2部分と、を有し、
前記第1及び第2画素電極は、前記ドメイン分割手段によって複数のドメインに分割され、前記ドメインの長辺2つは隣接する前記第2信号線の屈折部と実質的に平行であり、前記第2信号線の屈折部は画素の長さ毎に2つ以上現れる液晶表示装置。 - 前記第3切開部は、前記屈曲している部分と前記端部との間に、前記第1側及び前記第2側に向かって前記第1方向に沿って形成されている第3部分をさらに有する、請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層に含まれている液晶は負の誘電率異方性を有し、前記液晶はその長軸が前記第1及び第2基板に対し垂直に配向されている、請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記2つの直線部のうちの1つは前記第1信号線に対し実質的に135度をなし、もう1つは前記第1信号線に対し実質的に45度をなす、請求項1に記載の薄膜トランジスタ表示板。
- 前記第1画素電極と連結され、前記第2画素電極と絶縁状態で重畳している結合電極をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の薄膜トランジスタ表示板。
- 画素は3回折れ曲がった帯状であり、前記第1画素電極と前記第2画素電極は画素の2回目の折れ曲がった部分を境にして画素の面積を両分して占有する、請求項1に記載の薄膜トランジスタ表示板。
- 画素は3回折れ曲がった帯状であり、前記第1画素電極と前記第2画素電極が占める面積は互いに異なる、請求項1に記載の薄膜トランジスタ表示板。
- 前記ゲート線と平行に形成されている維持電極線及び前記維持電極線に連結され、前記結合電極と少なくとも一部分が重畳している維持電極をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の薄膜トランジスタ表示板。
