従来型OLEDを以下のように製作した。市販のガラススクラバーツールを使用して、パターン化透明ITO導電層を被覆した厚さ0.7mm以下のガラス基板を洗浄して乾燥した。ITOの厚さは約85nmであり、ITOのシート抵抗は約30Ω/□である。次いで、そのITO面を酸化的プラズマで処理して当該表面をアノードとして状態調節した。きれいなITO面上に、RFプラズマ処理チャンバ内でCHF3ガスを分解させることにより、HILとして厚さ1nmのCFx層を付着させた。次いで、基板を真空蒸着チャンバ内に移送して、該基板上にその他すべての層を付着させた。下記の層を、約10-6Torrの真空下で加熱ボートから昇華させ、下記の順序で付着させた。
(1)0.4nm/秒の速度で付着させたNPBからなる厚さ75nmのHTL
(2)0.4nm/秒の速度で付着させたAlqからなる厚さ60nmのETL(発光層としても作用する)
(3)0.1nm/秒の速度で付着させたLiFからなる厚さ0.5nmのEIL
(4)〜0.5nm/秒の速度で付着させた熱蒸発型Alからなる厚さ約70nmのカソード
本デバイスは、20mA/cm2を流すのに5.9Vの駆動電圧を要した。その輝度は688cd/m2であり、輝度効率は約3.4cd/Aであった。70℃における動作時間に対する輝度減衰及び電圧発生のグラフを図2に示す。周囲条件下で約100時間保存後のダークエッジ幅を図3に示す。
カソードを、熱で共蒸発させた容積比10:2のAl:Niとしたことを除き、例1と同様にOLEDを調製した。本デバイスは、封入することなく完成品とした。その構造をITO/CFx/NPB(75)/Alq(60)/LiF(0.5)/Al:Ni(10:2、熱型)と表示する。
本デバイスは、20mA/cm2を流すのに5.8Vの駆動電圧を要した。その輝度は578cd/m2であり、輝度効率は約2.9cd/Aであった。70℃における動作時間に対する輝度減衰及び電圧発生のグラフを図2に示す。周囲条件下で約100時間保存後のダークエッジ幅を図3に示す。
カソードを、熱で共蒸発させた容積比10:4のAl:Niとしたことを除き、例1と同様にOLEDを調製した。本デバイスは、封入することなく完成品とした。その構造をITO/CFx/NPB(75)/Alq(60)/LiF(0.5)/Al:Ni(10:4、熱型)と表示する。
本デバイスは、20mA/cm2を流すのに5.4Vの駆動電圧を要した。その輝度は571cd/m2であり、輝度効率は約2.9cd/Aであった。70℃における動作時間に対する輝度減衰及び電圧発生のグラフを図2に示す。周囲条件下で約100時間保存後のダークエッジ幅を図3に示す。
別の従来型OLEDを以下のように製作した。市販のガラススクラバーツールを使用して、パターン化透明ITO導電層を被覆した厚さ1.1mm以下のガラス基板を洗浄して乾燥した。ITOの厚さは約42nmであり、ITOのシート抵抗は約68Ω/□である。次いで、そのITO面を酸化的プラズマで処理して当該表面をアノードとして状態調節した。きれいなITO面上に、RFプラズマ処理チャンバ内でCHF3ガスを分解させることにより、HILとして厚さ1nmのCFx層を付着させた。次いで、基板を真空蒸着チャンバ内に移送して、該基板上にその他すべての層を付着させた。下記の層を、約10-6Torrの真空下で加熱ボートから昇華させ、下記の順序で付着させた。
(1)0.4nm/秒の速度で付着させたNPBからなる厚さ75nmのHTL
(2)0.4nm/秒の速度で付着させたAlqからなる厚さ60nmのETL(発光層としても作用する)
(3)0.4nm/秒の速度で付着させたCuPcからなる厚さ20nmのEIL
(4)0.1nm/秒の速度で付着させたLiFからなる厚さ0.5nmの別のEIL
本デバイスは、20mA/cm2を流すのに6.7Vの駆動電圧を要した。その輝度は562cd/m2であり、輝度効率は約2.8cd/Aであった。周囲条件下での保存時間に対するダークエッジ拡張を図4に示す。
上記Alターゲットを、容積比約10:1のAl:Niターゲットに置き換えたことを除き、例4と同様にOLEDを調製した。本デバイスは、封入することなく完成品とした。その構造をITO/CFx/NPB(75)/Alq(60)/CuPc(20)/LiF(0.5)/Al:Ni(10:1、スパッタ型)と表示する。
本デバイスは、20mA/cm2を流すのに6.2Vの駆動電圧を要した。その輝度は497cd/m2であり、輝度効率は約2.5cd/Aであった。周囲条件下での保存時間に対するダークエッジ拡張を図4に示す。

Claims (4)
- 順に、
a)アノード、
b)電場発光媒体、及び
c)2種以上の金属を含む合金系カソード
を含んで成り、該合金の金属のすべてが4.0eVより高い仕事関数を有し、該カソードが合金Al:Niを含み、かつ、Al:Niの容積比が10:1〜10:4の範囲内にあることを特徴とする有機電場発光デバイス。 - 該カソードが50nmより厚い、請求項1に記載の有機電場発光デバイス。
- 順に、
a)アノード、
b)電場発光媒体、
c)該電場発光媒体の一部と接する電子注入層、及び
d)該電子注入層と接する2種以上の金属を含む合金系カソード
を含んで成り、該合金の金属のすべてが4.0eVより高い仕事関数を有し、該カソードが合金Al:Niを含み、かつ、Al:Niの容積比が10:1〜10:4の範囲内にあることを特徴とする有機電場発光デバイス。 - a)アノードを設け、
b)電場発光媒体を形成し、そして
c)独立した2種以上の金属源の熱蒸発法、独立した2種以上の金属源の電子ビーム蒸発法又は合金ターゲットのスパッタ法により合金系カソードを形成する
工程を含んで成り、該合金の金属のすべてが4.0eVより高い仕事関数を有し、該カソードが合金Al:Niを含み、かつ、Al:Niの容積比が10:1〜10:4の範囲内にあることを特徴とする有機電場発光デバイスの製造方法。
