Description
また本発明では、機関排気通路内に機関排気通路の断面積よりも小さな断面積を有しかつ機関排気通路内を流れる排気ガスの一部が流通する小型酸化触媒と、小型酸化触媒に燃料を供給するための燃料供給弁とを配置し、燃料供給弁から小型酸化触媒に間欠的に燃料を供給することによって小型酸化触媒の下流に間欠的に火炎を生成させるようにし、燃料供給弁からの燃料の供給開始時期の間隔が吸入空気量の減少に伴ない長くされる。
更に本発明では、機関排気通路内に機関排気通路の断面積よりも小さな断面積を有しかつ機関排気通路内を流れる排気ガスの一部が流通する小型酸化触媒と、小型酸化触媒に燃料を供給するための燃料供給弁とを配置し、小型酸化触媒下流の機関排気通路内に、流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリーンのときには排気ガス中に含まれるNO x を吸蔵し流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリッチになると吸蔵したNO x を放出するNO x 吸蔵触媒を配置し、燃料供給弁から小型酸化触媒に間欠的に燃料を供給することによって小型酸化触媒の下流に間欠的に火炎を生成させるようにし、NO x 吸蔵触媒からNO x 又はSO x を放出すべきときには間欠的にリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成するようにしている。
図1を参照すると、1は機関本体、2は各気筒の燃焼室、3は各燃焼室2内に夫々燃料を噴射するための電子制御式燃料噴射弁、4は吸気マニホルド、5は排気マニホルドを夫々示す。吸気マニホルド4は吸気ダクト6を介して排気ターボチャージャ7のコンプレッサ7aの出口に連結され、コンプレッサ7aの入口は吸入空気量検出器8を介してエアクリーナ9に連結される。吸気ダクト6内にはステップモータにより駆動されるスロットル弁10が配置され、更に吸気ダクト6周りには吸気ダクト6内を流れる吸入空気を冷却するための冷却装置11が配置される。図1に示される実施例では機関冷却水が冷却装置11内に導かれ、機関冷却水によって吸入空気が冷却される。
図8は小型酸化触媒14の温度TCからわかるように時刻t0において小型酸化触媒14が活性化していない場合を示している。小型酸化触媒14が活性化していないときに燃料供給弁15から燃料を噴射させてもこの噴射燃料は小型酸化触媒14において酸化反応せず、火炎を生成させることはできない。
図11を参照するとまず初めにステップ60においてNOx吸蔵触媒17に単位時間当り吸蔵されるNOx量NOXAが算出される。このNOx量NOXAは要求トルクTQおよび機関回転数Nの関数として図12に示すマップの形で予めROM32内に記憶されている。次いでステップ61ではこのNOXAがNOx吸蔵触媒17に吸蔵されているNOx量ΣNOXに加算される。次いでステップ62では吸蔵NOx量ΣNOXが許容値NXを越えたか否かが判別され、ΣNOX≦NXのときにはステップ66にジャンプする。

Claims (12)
- 機関排気通路内に機関排気通路の断面積よりも小さな断面積を有しかつ該機関排気通路内を流れる排気ガスの一部が流通する小型酸化触媒と、該小型酸化触媒に燃料を供給するための燃料供給弁とを配置し、該燃料供給弁から小型酸化触媒に間欠的に燃料を供給することによって小型酸化触媒の下流に間欠的に火炎を生成させるようにし、小型酸化触媒の下流に間欠的に順次生成される火炎塊が相互に重ならないように燃料供給弁からの燃料の供給時期が設定されている内燃機関の排気浄化装置。

- 小型酸化触媒下流の機関排気通路内に排気浄化触媒又はパティキュレートフィルタが配置され、排気浄化触媒又はパティキュレートフィルタを昇温すべきときに火炎が生成される請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 機関排気通路内に機関排気通路の断面積よりも小さな断面積を有しかつ該機関排気通路内を流れる排気ガスの一部が流通する小型酸化触媒と、該小型酸化触媒に燃料を供給するための燃料供給弁とを配置し、該燃料供給弁から小型酸化触媒に間欠的に燃料を供給することによって小型酸化触媒の下流に間欠的に火炎を生成させるようにし、燃料供給弁からの燃料の供給開始時期の間隔が吸入空気量の減少に伴ない長くされる内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 機関排気通路内に機関排気通路の断面積よりも小さな断面積を有しかつ該機関排気通路内を流れる排気ガスの一部が流通する小型酸化触媒と、該小型酸化触媒に燃料を供給するための燃料供給弁とを配置し、小型酸化触媒下流の機関排気通路内に、流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリーンのときには排気ガス中に含まれるNO x を吸蔵し流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリッチになると吸蔵したNO x を放出するNO x 吸蔵触媒を配置し、該燃料供給弁から小型酸化触媒に間欠的に燃料を供給することによって小型酸化触媒の下流に間欠的に火炎を生成させるようにし、NO x 吸蔵触媒からNO x 又はSO x を放出すべきときには間欠的にリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成するようにした内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- NO x 吸蔵触媒からNO x 又はSO x を放出すべきときに機関の運転状態がリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成しうる運転状態であるか否かが判断され、NO x 吸蔵触媒からNO x 又はSO x を放出すべきときに機関の運転状態がリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成しうる運転状態であるときには火炎が生成され、NO x 吸蔵触媒からNO x 又はSO x を放出すべきときに機関の運転状態がリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成しうる運転状態でないときには火炎を生成させることなくNO x 吸蔵触媒に流入する排気ガスの空燃比をリッチにするようにした請求項9に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 排気ガスの空燃比のリーンの度合が予め定められたリーン度合よりも大きくなる機関の運転状態のときに機関の運転状態がリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成しうる運転状態であると判断される請求項10に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 軽負荷運転時又は減速運転時に機関の運転状態がリッチ空燃比の火炎を生成しうる運転状態であると判断される請求項11に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
