Description
本発明は音響エネルギィを用いた非侵入性の手順を実行するシステムに関するものであり、特に、非均質組織を通して超音波エネルギィをあててその下の組織を治療するシステムに関する。
頭蓋内または身体の他の領域内の良性または悪性腫瘍などの組織は、例えば外科的にその組織を除去するといった侵入的治療を行うか、あるいは、例えば熱凝固療法を用いるなどして非侵入的治療を行うことができる。両取り組み共に、脳内のある特定の場所の状態を効果的に治療することができるが、健康な組織を破壊したり傷つけたりしないことが求められ、デリケートな手順を必要とする。これらの処置は患部組織が健康な組織の中に同化されているような状態では、この健康な組織を傷つけることが神経機能に有意に影響を与えそうにないというような場合でない限り、適当でない。
本発明の一実施例によれば、介在組織を通って組織領域内のターゲット部位に音響エネルギィを送出するシステムが提供される。このシステムは、例えば、超音波エネルギィなどの音響エネルギィを各通過ゾーンに沿って介在組織を介してターゲット部位へ送出するように構成された複数のトランスデューサエレメントを具えるトランスデューサアレイを具える。
図面を参照すると、図1は本発明に係る集束超音波システム10の一実施例を示す図であり、画像生成器12、音響トランスデューサ14、ビーム形成器あるいは信号調整器18、コントローラ20、周波数発生器22、およびシステム画像およびディスプレイコンピュータ40を具える。選択的に、システム10は、タッチスクリーン、キーボード、及び/又はマウス(図示せず)、などのユーザインターフェース25、及び/又はディスプレイ17を具えていても良い。システム10は、以下に述べるように患者30の頭蓋28内の特性を決定する、及び/又は、頭蓋28内の組織に音響エネルギィを送出することができる。好ましくは、本システムは例えば10KHz(0.01MHz)から10MHz間で超音波エネルギィを頭蓋あるいは他の組織領域内の組織に送出するように構成されている。
まず、画像生成器12は頭蓋28の内部画像を得るようにして、頭蓋骨組織の境界、および選択的に頭蓋内の他の組織領域の境界を決定することができる。画像生成器12は、例えば、磁気共鳴影像法(MRI)装置、コンピュータ断層撮影(CT)装置、あるいは超音波映像(UIS)装置(図示せず)であっても良い。画像は、一次元画像あるいは好ましくは対象部位を通る断面の二次元画像であっても良い。代替的に三次元画像を画像生成器12から受信することができる。画像生成器12がCT装置である場合、画像生成器12は画像生成器12で提供される画像中の各ピクセルのCT数(ハウンズフィールド数ともいう)を決定して提供することができる。超音波プローブを用いて画像を取得するシステムの具体的な実施例が、米国特許出願10/190,787号に開示されている。

Claims (11)
- 介在組織を通って組織領域内のターゲット部位へ音響エネルギィを送出するシステムにおいて:
前記介在組織を通って前記ターゲット部位へ向けて各通過ゾーンにそって音響エネルギィを送信するように構成された複数のトランスデューサエレメントを具えるトランスデューサアレイと;
前記組織領域の画像を作る画像生成器であって、前記介在組織の組織型を示す画像データを生成する画像生成器と;
前記画像データを受信するべく前記画像生成器に接続されたプロセッサであって、前記介在組織内で複数種類の組織型間の境界を決定し、前記画像データ及び特定した前記境界に基づいて前記トランスデューサエレメントについての補正ファクタを生成し、前記音響エネルギィが前記介在組織内の前記組織型及び当該組織型間の境界を通過する際に生じる屈折を補償し、前記音響エネルギィが前記各通過ゾーン内の前記複数種類の組織型を通過する際の音速の変化を補償するように構成されたプロセッサと;
前記プロセッサと前記トランスデューサアレイに接続されたコントローラであって、前記プロセッサから前記補正ファクタを受け取り、前記各補正ファクタに基づいて前記トランスデューサエレメントに励起信号を提供して、前記トランスデューサエレメントで送られる音響信号を前記ターゲット部位に集束させるように構成したコントローラと;
を具えることを特徴とするシステム。 - 請求項1に記載のシステムにおいて、前記画像生成器が磁気共鳴画像生成器と、コンピュータ断層撮影画像生成器と、超音波画像生成器の少なくとも一つを具えることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項1に記載のシステムにおいて、前記画像生成器が各組織型の組織密度に比例する画像強度データを生成するように構成されており、前記プロセッサが複数の組織型を同定するために前記画像強度データを解析するように構成されていることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項1に記載のシステムにおいて、前記画像生成器が前記介在組織を具える複数の二次元画像を生成するように構成されていることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項4に記載のシステムにおいて、前記プロセッサが前記複数の二次元画像を、前記介在組織を含む一又はそれ以上の三次元レンダリングに変換するように構成されていることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項5に記載のシステムにおいて、前記プロセッサが前記介在組織内の前記複数の組織型間の境界を前記一又はそれ以上の三次元レンダリングに基づいて自動的に決定するように構成されていることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項5に記載のシステムが更に:
前記一又はそれ以上の三次元レンダリングを表示するよう構成されたディスプレイと;
前記一又はそれ以上の三次元レンダリングと相互作用して前記介在組織内の組織型を同定するよう構成されたユーザインターフェースと;
を具えることを特徴とするシステム。 - 請求項4に記載のシステムにおいて、前記プロセッサが前記二次元画像に基づいて前記複数の組織型間の境界を自動的に決定するように構成されていることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項1に記載のシステムにおいて、前記補正ファクタが各トランスデューサエレメントに関連する位相ファクタを具え、前記コントローラが前記補正ファクタに基づいて前記各トランスデューサエレメントに提供される励起信号の位相を調整するよう構成された位相調整器を具えることを特徴とするシステム。
- 請求項9に記載のシステムにおいて、前記励起信号が各トランスデューサエレメントに関連する振幅補正ファクタを具え、前記コントローラが更に、前記振幅補正ファクタに基づいて各トランスデューサエレメントに提供される前記励起信号を増幅するよう構成された前記位相調整器に接続された一又はそれ以上の増幅器を具えることを特徴とするシステム。
- 複数のトランスデューサエレメントを含んでいるトランスデューサアレイを有する超音波治療システムを動作させるソフトウエアにおいて、前記ソフトウエアがコンピュータで読み取り可能な媒体上にあり、前記システムに:
ターゲット部位と前記トランスデューサアレイと前記ターゲット部位間の介在組織を具える組織領域の一又はそれ以上の画像を獲得させ;
前記一又はそれ以上の画像に基づいて前記介在組織内の複数の組織型間の境界を決定させ;
音響エネルギィが各トランスデューサエレメントから前記介在組織を通って前記ターゲット部位へ延びる通過ゾーン内の前記複数の組織型を通過する際の前記音響エネルギィの音速の変化を補償し、前記音響エネルギィが前記通過ゾーン内の前記組織型及び当該組織型間の境界を通過する際に生じる屈折を補償するために、前記一又はそれ以上の画像及び特定した前記組織型間の境界に基づいて、前記トランスデューサエレメントの励起補正ファクタを生成する;
指令を具えることを特徴とするソフトウエア。
