Claims (11)
- 排気ガス中のSOxを捕獲するためのSOx捕獲材を排気通路内に備え、該SOx捕獲材が該SOx捕獲材に流入する排気ガスの空燃比が理論空燃比よりもリーンな空燃比であり且つ該SOx捕獲材の温度が予め定められた温度よりも低いときに排気ガス中のSOxを捕獲し、該SOx捕獲材に流入する排気ガスの空燃比が理論空燃比またはそれよりもリッチな空燃比であり且つ該SOx捕獲材の温度が上記予め定められた温度よりも高いときに捕獲しているSOxを放出し、予め定められた条件が成立したときにSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCを供給するHC供給制御を実行するようになっている内燃機関の排気浄化装置において、SOx捕獲材が捕獲しているSOxの量が予め定められた量よりも少ないときには、上記HC供給制御として、予め定められたパターンでSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCを供給する第1のHC供給制御を実行し、SOx捕獲材が捕獲しているSOxの量が上記予め定められた量よりも多いときには、上記HC供給制御として、上記予め定められたパターンとは異なるパターンであって、SOx捕獲材の温度が局所的に上記予め定められた温度よりも高くなることを抑制し或いはSOx捕獲材に流入する排気ガス中に空燃比が局所的にリッチな領域が形成されることを抑制するパターンでSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCを供給する第2のHC供給制御を実行することを特徴とする内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記第1のHC供給制御では、単位時間当たりに予め定められた量のHCがSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中に供給され、上記第2のHC供給制御では、単位時間当たりに上記予め定められた量よりも少ない量のHCがSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中に供給されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記第2のHC供給制御では、上記第1のHC供給制御においてSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中に供給されるHCよりも排気ガス中への拡散性の高いHCがSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中に供給されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記第2のHC供給制御では、SOx捕獲材に流入する排気ガスの空燃比のリーン度合が予め定められたリーン度合よりも大きく維持されるようにSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCが供給されることを特徴とする請求項2または3に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記予め定められたリーン度合がSOx捕獲材の温度が低いほど大きく設定されることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記第2のHC供給制御では、単位時間当たりのSOx捕獲材の局所的な温度上昇量が上記第1のHC供給制御において許容される単位時間当たりのSOx捕獲材の局所的な温度上昇量よりも小さく維持されるようにSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCが供給されることを特徴とする請求項1〜5のいずれか1つに記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記第2のHC供給制御では、単位時間当たりのSOx捕獲材全体の温度上昇量が上記第1のHC供給制御において許容される単位時間当たりのSOx捕獲材全体の温度上昇量よりも小さく維持されるようにSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCが供給されることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記SOx捕獲材下流の排気通路内に排気ガス中の粒子状物質を捕集するパティキュレートフィルタが配置されており、上記予め定められた条件の1つが該パティキュレートフィルタの温度を予め定められた目標温度にまで上昇させて該パティキュレートフィルタに捕集された粒子状物質を燃焼させて除去するべきであると判断される燃料除去条件であり、該燃焼除去条件が成立したときに上記第2のHC供給制御が実行される場合、該第2のHC供給制御では、前記燃焼除去条件が成立したときに上記第1のHC供給制御が実行される場合における該第1のHC供給制御における上記目標温度よりも低い温度を目標温度としてSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCが供給されることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記第2のHC供給制御では、SOx捕獲材の温度振幅が上記第1のHC供給制御において許容されるSOx捕獲材の温度振幅よりも小さく維持されるようにSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCが供給されることを特徴とする請求項7または8に記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記SOx捕獲材下流の排気通路内に排気ガス中のNOxを吸収するNOx吸収剤が配置されており、上記予め定められた条件の1つが該NOx吸収剤からNOxを放出させるべきであると判断されるNOx放出条件であり、該NOx放出条件が成立したときに上記第2のHC供給制御が実行される場合、該第2のHC供給制御では、SOx捕獲材の温度振幅が前記NOx放出条件が成立したときに上記第1のHC供給制御が実行される場合における該第1のHC供給制御において許容されるSOx捕獲材の温度振幅よりも小さく維持されるようにSOx捕獲材上流において排気ガス中にHCが供給されることを特徴とする請求項6〜9のいずれか1つに記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
- 上記SOx捕獲材上流の排気通路内に該SOx捕獲材の酸化能力よりも高い酸化能力を備えた酸化触媒が配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1〜10のいずれか1つに記載の内燃機関の排気浄化装置。
