Description
タップ密度ρtが1.45g/cm3未満の場合は、トナー化時の分散が不十分となる。2.50g/cm3を超える場合は、磁性体ペレットが生成し、結果としてトナーとした時の分散が悪い。タップ密度は好ましくは1.50〜2.30g/cm3、より好ましくは1.55〜2.00g/cm3である。
本発明において最も重要な点は、磁性酸化鉄粒子の粒子表面がカップリング剤によって被覆されていると共に、該カップリング剤被覆磁性酸化鉄粒子表面にワックスが被覆している複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末は、ワックスが均一に被覆していると共に、トナー化の際に該複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末の分散性が優れるという事実である。
即ち、カサ密度ρaで得られた試料10gを上皿天秤で秤量し、25mlメスシリンダーに入れる。次に、タップ試料台にこのメスシリンダーをセットし、落下高さ30mmに調節されたタップを600回繰り返し、メスシリンダー中の試料の容積を読み取る。

複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉を下記混合割合でヘンシェルミキサーにより混合し、二軸押し出し混練機(栗本鉄鋼社製 商品名:S−1)を用いて溶融混練した。混練物を冷却後、微粉砕した。ついで、これを分級して体積平均粒子径が8〜10μm(コルターカウンター社製 商品名:Multisizer IIで測定)の磁性トナーを製造した。得られた磁性トナー100重量部に対して疎水性シリカ微粉末(日本アエロジル社製 商品名:RX−200)0.5重量部を外添処理し、磁性トナーを得た。
複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末: 60重量部、
負帯電制御剤: 0.5重量部。

硫酸第一鉄水溶液に鉄成分に対して当量または当量以上の水酸化ナトリウムなどアルカリを加え、水酸化第一鉄溶液を調整した。調整した水溶液のpHをpH6〜8に維持しながら80℃以上に加温し、空気を吹き込んで酸化反応を行い磁性酸化鉄粒子を生成した。次に、磁性酸化鉄粒子スラリーを常法にて水洗、ろ過、乾燥して0.20μmの磁性酸化鉄粒子を得た(酸化鉄1)。
得られた磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末(酸化鉄1)2,000gに、デシルトリエトキシシラン60g(磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末に対して3重量部)を加え、エッジランナー「MPUV−2型」(松本鋳造鉄工所製)を用いて、線加重25kg/cmにて加圧しながら60分処理し、表面改質処理磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末を得た。
酸化鉄粒子粉末の種類、カップリング剤の種類及び添加量、ワックスの種類及び添加量を種々変化させた以外は、前記実施例1と同様にして複合酸化鉄粒子粉末を得た。なお、表1に示した酸化鉄2は常法に従って得られた八面体の酸化鉄粒子粉末である。
即ち、磁性酸化鉄粒子1000部とヘキシルトリメトキシシラン30部とをトルエン中に加え、撹拌下で100℃まで加熱し、2時間混合・撹拌した後、トルエンを留去した。
次いで、ここに得た磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末500部に軟化点100℃のパラフィン系ワックス25部をトルエン中に加えて加熱溶解し、トルエンを留去してワックスを表面処理した複合酸化鉄粒子を得た。
得られた各複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末を用いて磁性トナーを製造し、磁性トナーの常温常湿(25℃ 50%RH)環境下において、連続して10,000枚のベタ黒(A4)印刷テストを行い、紙裏汚れ及び耐久性を確認した。
Claims (2)
- 磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末にカップリング剤を加えて、せん断・へらなで・圧縮の作用を行えるホイール型混練機によって混合撹拌して、磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末の粒子表面をカップリング剤によって被覆し、次いで、該カップリング剤によって被覆された磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末にワックス加えて、せん断・へらなで・圧縮の作用を行えるホイール型混練機によって混合撹拌して、該カップリング剤によって被覆された磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末の粒子表面を更にワックスで被覆した複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末であって、該複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末のカサ密度ρaが1.00〜1.10g/cm3であってタップ密度ρtが1.60〜1.85g/cm3であり、圧縮度が40.0〜43.6%であることを特徴とする磁性トナー用複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末。
- 疎水化度(M値)が20%以上であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の磁性トナー用複合磁性酸化鉄粒子粉末。
